I'm kind of glad that when I was writing fan fiction, there was no centralized way to post things like there is now. I once wrote a fan fiction that was about 60 pages long. It was probably crap and I'm glad no one remembers it. It was read by some people and people were positive, but people are almost always positive with these things in my experience. The only remnant of its existence is a physical copy in my mother's attic with my old games that I haven't touched in over ten years and will probably never touch again because reading it would probably embarass me too much. So, yeah, glad my story wasn't preserved for all to see. *grabs cane and dons old man voice* Back in my day, we had to post it to forums, like on infoceptor.net, wait for it to become well liked and well reviewed, then wait a couple of years, then it might just be put up where people can see. I remember there was a lot of privatae, single-owner archives of fan fiction though, like IcyBrian and some others.
I do plan on returning to writing. Not necessarily fan fiction though. If I weren't an economist or geopolitical analyst, I'd probably be a writer. I like it that much. I've gotten massive outlines in text documents that I jot down as I day dream (meditate) and I've gotten some decent material, all I need is enough free time that I wouldn't be ruining my future by taking the time to write.
I guess what I'm saying is, props to everyone with enough balls (or lady balls) to put yourself out there like that.
@Squibb: I'm guessing it quickly devolved into how unfair and unjust the universe is and how immoral and oppressive the laws of nature were. Oh, and a few jabs at religion just to put a little tingle below the belt.

Lady balls... *snorts* I don't know if it's a question of gumption if we're not being being persecuted for our work, but okay.

In a sense, that's pretty accurate.
Actually it was about everyone else's species joining forces in a Galactic Union to combat mine and another guy's. My species were herd animals and were preyed upon by the larger carnivores. They evolved on a planet with two suns and the life on their planet incorporate hardened carbon into their anatomy through geophagy to survive the heat, making them all extra durable. They were taken from their home planet as slaves for their strength but quickly rebelled and commandeered the master's technology, and pledged to purge the galaxy of all other sentient organic life because they were sick of being taken advantage of. They joined forces with a malfunctioning AI who wished to destroy his synthetic brothers who were part of the Galactic Union, and together they wreaked havok across the galaxy until a fatal blow was struck at the heart of their command centre. Ascension was their rise to a space power, Betrayal was the story of the AI turning on the GU, Crisis was the major battle between the GU and my species, and Discord was their downfall after the internal power collapse.

So, yeah, basically a socialist uprising against the greedy capitalists, except, you know, scifi-ized with a sprinkling of Squibbings.

Indeed. But, again, props for having the lady balls to put yourself out there.

Yeah, I do some world building. Have only like... 2 worlds that I "construct" now and then when I have time or inspiration.
One is happening in this world with some secret alternate history. In which two groups of people are in a constant conflict against each other. In a technology versus "magic" in the form of telepathy and telekinetics sort of way, with us normal humans totally oblivious caught in the middle. Naturally resulting in One Myth To Explain Them All
Currently call the world project; "2635" as it happens around then.
Another is a planet tidally locked between a cold sun and a black hole, dividing the planet in half. Life arose on both sides, but evolved differently. One side is populated by life roughly as found on Earth, the other side is populated by draconic life. Dragons, rawr! And where the planet is divided there is a constant violent storm, among other things that makes it hard to traverse. Thus I call this world; "Storm".

Sounds interesting? How do you record the information for the worlds you construct?
