People,People.Wait i don't asked for the history of Xenomorphs.Don't spoil me.I'm waiting next halloween to watch Alien. My question is how you think that zerg virus is spreading. Is there any virus in nature to compared. You touch creep and then put you finger in your mouth.Or it is like HIV You need to be injected or need to be fuc....Or it needs to get into your bloodstream. Is it infective if you touch creep or breath on infested world.

It's possible it doesn't require physical contact.

If you recall when Hanson was talking to Raynor about Meinhoff (this was before you actually GO there), she said there's rumours of disease and such spreading throughout the camps. Now, I can't imagine the millions of refugees ALL had physical contact, so probably the virus doesn't need that kind of contact to spread.

The "virus" itself is a violent parasite of the planet's ecosystem. It spreads through most, if not all, mediums when there's an operational hive within the orbit of the planet. So, yes, touching/breeding/eating anything in contact with the virus in a primary or secondary way will get you infected. I believe it is created in strains and each is used for different tasks.

"The Sara System strain": This was the first time the Zerg encountered humans. The Overmind was looking for strong psionic organisms to assimilate into the swarm. Upon contact with Chau Sara, the Swarm created an underground hive system that emitted spores into the planet's atmosphere. This contaminated the whole planet within days. This fast infestation helped the Overmind evaluate the Terrans as failed psionic individuals. Massive planetary infestations might have been taxing on Zerg resources, so the Overmind started to chase powerful psionic energies (psi emitters and ghosts).

"The Defiler strains": These are Death's incarnations within the swarm. Even Zerg die in a horrible way when exposed to these virus.

"The First and Second Great War strain": A less taxing virus was developed that lived within Zerg organisms and creep. This virus infested Aiur and the UED facilities.

"The Raszagal strain": Mind control strain that manipulates Protoss.

From a biological perspective I believe the Zerg virus is not a virus. It's aggressive behavior and survival capabilities belongs to a bacteria. Dry minerals alone have been able to infest Terrans (Frontline II - God of Tunder IIRC).

Are you sure Raszagal was even subjected to a virus? Kerrigan never said in detail how she corrupted her...

It's not like the other Dark Templar had been corrupted by the Zerg virus before, the fortitude of the void prevents infestation and all that.

Raszagal was never infested. Her thoughts were just manipulated. I believe Kerrigan used a neurological infection based attack on Raszagal. She grew bacteria "walls" within Raszagal brain and created an inception illusion. It was never done again, because Kerrigan either lost her memory or needed a DT Protoss close to her with abundant time.

Not all of her memory lost, Kerrigan probably forgot how to do that later on.

To me though, it may just have something to do with the psychic domination effect.

If you recall if you chose Nova over Tosh in the WoL mission, she had some sort of ability to mind control other units. There was an Ultralisk on that map too, which the psychic domination worked on as well. Though some may argue that's just gameplay.

^ Maybe it's a psionic virus, a virus that's passed through psionics? Can't see why they can't invent something like that to explain it.

Don't forget that there are these things that are called virophages that can expel this undead plague into the very air or hose down nearby victims.
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

Yeah but we haven't seen proof if the virophages would work on Protoss, you can't assume that.

Oo-er. Should've separated those sentences out a bit more. The virophage thing I mentioned was an answer (one of many it seems) to the original post/question of how Zerg virus' are transmitted and not anything about how to infect Protoss. My bad.

It's ok. I mean we know the virus CAN infest Protoss if it mutates enough. Just look at the "Creep" story and you'll know what I'm talking about.

But we don't know if Kerrigan has ever mutated the virus up to that point.
