Well it's no wonder why you didn't like Superman Returns. It followed the story of the originals and would have made sense if you had the continuity of the originals in mind.

Basically the lesson Superman learnt in the originals is that in roder to be Superman he had to give up a normal life meaning he can't start a family or live like a normal person. He has to accept he's above those things. Initially Superman was selfish and didn't listen to Jor-El but by the end of Superman II he realised he was wrong. That's what Superman Returns is trying to do. It's trying to depict Superman adjusting to being more than just a regular human.

I personally liked Man of Steel for the same reasons that TheEconomist/Tychus Findlay did. Mainly the fight scenes. When someone got hit in Man of Steel, you fucking FELT them get hit, as opposed to say, The Avengers. Also, The Avengers' final battle was a team of supers mowing down nameless goons. In Man of Steel, Superman is fighting his equals, and the enemies are a much bigger threat, despite being far fewer in number.

I also like how they made Zod sympathetic, rather than just being evil for evil's sake. He wants to do what's best for his people after their homeworld was destroyed. It just happened that his methods were ruthless, and that he didn't care about those who happened to be in his way that made him the villain.

I liked that as well but I still think the film's cons matche its pros.

I like the premise for the film. The villain plot really fit in with the origin story. However I just think a lot of things could have been better executed.

Looks like Snyder has out done himself again. Just Bieber may be portraying Robin in the Man of Steel sequel:

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse. I shouldn't have underestimated Snyder.

Is this suppose to be like...a crossover with the Nolan trilogy? Or is the Ben Affleck Batman a different universe?

I wouldn't get too upset about the Bieber thing. Judging from the small amount of I spent trying to keep up with such things for stock market purposes, before an actor is set in stone they're flipped flopped almost daily. Besides, I didn't see where Bieber said he had gotten the part, only that he had been sent the script, which I'm sure 20 or so "actors" have it or more. This might be publicity for Bieber or just to gauge whether or not they have deal with the amount of back lash or not.

Still, given that I don't get that involved with these things, the cultural blow up resulting from this might just be worth the death of a movie, which probably wasn't going to be good anyways.

    Rest In Peace, Old Friend.

Before Man of Steel, I was of the opinion that there could be no such thing as a good Superman movie. After Man of Steel, I believe that a great Superman movie is possible.
But a Batman vs Superman film? Never going to work.

It means that one day, Clark is going to have to decide what to do with his powers, and what his relationship with the rest of the world is going to be. But once he made that decision and revealed himself to the world, there's no going back.
Young Clark wasn't mature enough to make that decision. Neither was teenage "You aren't my real dad!" Clark.

If an alien escape pod carrying a near-human lands in your fields, and that near-human starts exhibiting superhuman powers, it's not hard to imagine that there's other things out there. Things that Earth might need defending from. And there's definitely Earthlings who will love to have a superman working for them.

How about the paranoia and suspicion that the government directed toward him? Admittedly, it was downplayed from the levels it should have reached, but they still tried to spy on him with a Predator drone, and who knows what else.

"Mixed up priorities" is introducing a massive battle between floating dreadnoughts, and then dedicating a fat fraction of the CGI budget to a space dragon pony.

A powerful thing, nostalgia can be.

    ^^This.
Throughout Zod's scenes, I kept thinking "This is just like the Didact from Halo 4... only intelligent. Handled with respect. Not written and designed by a bunch of hacks.
