^ Cool, that means the Terrans will soon be so poor that they won't be even able to make swords to defend themselves; in turn, making them eventually as weak as they were initially conceived. Fridge brilliance indeed!
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

    That's part of the charm.

Please, do tell how the plot of Halo is similar to StarCraft beyond "Militarized Humans/Advanced Proud Warrior Race Guys/Nasty Biological Aliens" being the three most readily apparent factions.

In the 21th century, that's where I come from, weapons capable of exploding cars are affordable for the average guy. But in most countries, carrying or even possessing the most ancient weapons makes everyone extremely uncomfortable. Civilization makes us too sissy to take advantage of technology, it seems. So even in a time where grenades and .12 rifles were cheap enough to be bought, people freaked out if you told you where carrying an army dagger or an old pistol with you.

In other words, old weapons are sufficient to kill humans. No economical explanations needed.

Vynil is superior to mp3. It's not just charming. I know people who can tell me if a music is being played from an mp3 file or from a legitimate CD. Vynil is even superior to CDs in sound quality. My brother is a vynil enthusiast and he told me of a musician (Bob Dylan? Some jazz guy? Im not certain) who said that this generation will have no great musicians because our ears are just not sharp enough, because we listen to mp3's which have a very low sound quality.

A Brazilian woman (from my city, BTW) named Zilda Arns was very close to get a Nobel Prize because, living in the richest region of one of the world's biggest economies, because she saved thousands of children's lives by giving them water mixed with salt and sugar. I'll repeat: she lived nowhere close to the "fourth world", she lived in a place where the living conditions where way superior to the world's average, and she saved thousands and almost won a Nobel because of water mixed with sugar and salt.

Sometimes old tech is just incredibly efficient.

There's a silly plot hole about anciente weapons, though, delivered by Ms. Christie Golden. In Firstborn, Valerian is said to train with a sword which has been in his family for centuries. The plot hole, or weird thing at least, is: this probably means the sword was brought from Earth, in the supercarriers, which doesn't make much sense.

Yeah Christie Golden was never good at logic.

@TcheQuevara: That's nothing. Obama actually got the prize for saying he was going to do some shit I'm sure he'll get around to one of these days.

    Rest In Peace, Old Friend.

Well, getting a Nobel may be nothing, but saving lives with a recipe that simple is almost incredible So thing don't get "antiquated" because they're not useful anymore. They get antiquated because, for reasons that have not everything to do with practicality, they stop being produced.

So the question is, not why would they produce/possess unpractical old stuff (they not unpractical), but why would they produce/possess things that stopped being produced in the past.

@Lesters, where is it implied the Old Families used to be loyal to the UPL? I didn't know that. If it's implied by logic, I'd say it makes sense but it also makes sense the UPL didn't care about those people at all and just sent them into space.
