Oooh, Pushing Ice. Been meaning to read. I started the first two chapters but then quit because I got distracted by some other space opera books. I hear Alastair Reynolds is able to pack the epicness of a space opera trilogy in one book (and the first two chapters do seem epic) and I keep wanting to read but everytime it comes down to it I just can't resist another Revelation Space book. Plan on reading 'Galactic North' next. Surprisingly, space opera short stories are actually pretty damn good, in some ways more epic than their longer relatives.

Well, I would definitely recommend Pushing Ice to anyone who wants to get into Reynolds' works, but doesn't feel up to tackling Revelation Space at the moment, or, just to anyone who likes good Space Opera. Also, the alien races in Pushing Ice are some of the most imaginative, yet physically plausible I've seen, even though we only really meet two, and they're both only known by the names the human protagonists give them; the "Fountainheads", and the "Musk Dogs".

Have you read any of the other Reynolds single novels? I bought like six of them through the last year or so in sales, haven't touched a single one other than Pushing Ice. Wondering if one of them should be my next book.

Sadly, no. Only Revelation Space and Pushing Ice.

You haven't read further in the series? You really need to. Revelation Space is quite a bit more awkward than the others.

I would if I knew where to find them. They aren't at any of the bookstores in my area, and my Kindle got busted a few years back.

    Aaand sold.

Ever read Cyteen by C. J. Cherryh? Another book I picked up on a whim because of a sale and know very little about. Any good?

I started reading that in high school but couldn't get into it. Now that I'm a bit older I can appreciate her writing style and stories, so I'll see if I can't find a copy somewhere sometime.
