Currently on Peter Watts' βehemoth: Seppuku, the last in his apocalyptic Starfish saga. Says James Nicoll on Watts, "Whenever I find my will to live becoming too strong, I read Peter Watts."

Right now I'm reading King's Man and Thief by Christie Golden. It's for a blog I'm doing where I compare Golden's original stuff to what she did for Blizzard. I'm not very far in, but so far it's the kind of sensationalist fantasy story that's common in fantasy directed towards the female demographic. As in, emotional and with a hot protagonist.

Just picked up The Long Regard for Silent Things, by Patrick Rothfuss. Something of a gaiden or side story to his excellent Kingkiller Chronicles.

I don't know anything about that book. What's it about?

Ugh, the book I'm reading is awful. It reminds me of why I don't read books targeted toward women anymore.

So I'm reading Mystic Warrior by Tracy and Laura Hickman. Tracy being the author of Starcraft: Speed of Darkness. It's a tad on the boring side, but not bad so far. A bit too much setup, not enough stuff. But I'm only at the beginning, so we'll see what happens.

Here's an incomplete list of books I've read since my last update. Somehow, I also forget to add the science fiction books I read but can consistently remember to add the fantasy ones though. Oh well, probably because I read fantasy when I have more free time.

Anyways, feel free to hear the echo of me talking to myself then dip on out or take a look at the books and respond with nothing.

What's not in my list (partially because I haven't finished all of them) are a lot of military sci fi novels. They're ridiculously cheap on Amazon, even when you add in Audible narration. I feel like a child in a candy store with $2 and $3 books. Now ... Ask me how many of them have better military science fiction stories than StarCraft 2? All of the ones I've read so far. It's amazing how Unknown Self-published Authot #823947832428 can pump out a trilogy of novels better than Blizzard. I usually try to temper my rants on Blizzard since even I'm sick of hearing them but I feel it adds to the (echo chamber) conversation here.

Welcome to SCL. Also, consequently, Reddit.

I just finished Echopraxia by Peter Watts. Compared to Blindsight, it was "eh". I've got a few more books from the library left, including:

Descarte's Error: Emotion, Reason, and the Human Brain, by Antonio Damasio.

The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula le Guinn.

    Ike's Bluff, by Evan Thomas.

Tomas Transtromer: Select Poems, edited by Robert Hass.

Khas, let me know how Descarte's Error is. I see it a lot at work, but I've just got so much else to read right now.

If anyone is interested, Audible is giving me the option of giving a free audiobook that I own to anyone that registers for a free account. If you're interested let me know. I own a lot of books, so I'm sure we can find you something.

I just read a fascinating examination about how rape victims (such as myself) can't make rape jokes (which I do). It was really cool. Author was a brilliant genius. I think his name was JohnnyZeWolf or DonnyZeDoof or somesuch.

This brilliant warrior for equality, it seems, thinks that if someone does something he disapproves of, they can't really be a rape victim. Right? All rape victims are identical people who need some gleaming white knight to come save them from the evils of the world. I am enlightened, praise Lord Doofus!

Look at all these people who are either trolls or faked being raped (most likely both, I finally realize):

ACTUALLY on topic now, I'm not reading anything at the moment, though I've got a book of interviews from my favourite musician arriving sometime next week, and I'm looking forward to it.
