Thread: What Are You Reading?

I was reading The Horus Heresy series, but the second book threw me off by being so badly written. It's almost SC official fiction bad, narratively speaking. The plot itself might be okay, but I can't get into False Gods because it's so noobishly written. That, and all the characters who were intense and noble in the first book are all suddenly angry all the time and liable to fly off on a rage at the slightest provocation.

A series written by one person per book is not really a great idea, imo.

I got like 30 books in the Warhammer series from Humble Bundle a bit ago. I'm mustering up a care to start reading them. Don't know much about Warhammer outside of the games I've played.

I really liked the first Horus Heresy book. It wasn't the best written, but the story was interesting enough to keep me going. I haven't read any others, as I've just started. Some guy sold us 50 or so Warhammer books so it's an opportunity to try things out. I read a game book, though, and once you do you realize just how much Starcraft is a rip-off of Warhammer.

If you want to read the books you have, start with one written by Dan Abnett. He seems to have a good handle on what makes Warhammer interesting.

I want to incorporate some elements from the Dark Templar Saga into one of the episodes of my project, albeit modified to fit an RTS campaign's story structure. I have Book 1 and 2, is it worth getting 3 and do an in-depth reading, or would Wiki summaries and bios of characters be sufficient for a loose interpretation of the plot?
Arcturus Mengsk did nothing wrong. Tarsonis is just a conspiracy theory.

The wiki should be enough, the books are only needed if you want a deep interpretation and character emotions and such.

Oh goodness no! Don't do it! The "Dark Templar" Saga sucks. Between non-nerve corded humans accessing their own Khala, a Protoss female in a human male's brain, the waste of Ulrezaj, the utter petulant, whiny-ness of Zeratul, and just general crappy plot, there's nothing there that's worthwhile. Not to mention that the books merely repeat a lot of information that exists already in the games.

In other words, wiki summaries are fine.

    Elements, not the details.

You don't need the books themselves for that, the wiki can do just fine for it all

The Dark Templar trilogy is 'good'. Leave it at that. It's the best StarCraft novels up to that point, which is why it was retconned.

And here I thought you didn't like the SC2 books. Hmmm.....
