New short story up, focussing on the infested terran.

It's a shame that the story is somewhat spoiled a tad earlier than expected with that image of the infested terran. IMO, another good story giving us a little insight into the Zerg perspective on infestation and how a victim of it may experience such a conversion.

This story reminds me of a similar idea I had long ago for a fanfic about a Terran soldier who hadn't realised he was infested up until the end of the story. Never got beyond the conceptualisation stage unfortunately.

I'm not sure how to understand the ending. Did he embrace the infestation because he was ashamed of himself?

The ending is somewhat ambiguous (I love that in particular) but the "giving in due to shame" is probably the most obvious take on that ending.

Another interpretation of the ending could be that he finally accepted his inherent dark side (note that although he seems to not want to remember, he admits right at the end that he cannot help but love "it" and always would) which the infestation process helped him realise. Perhaps, the infestation process gave him an opportunity to become his real self again and he took it. When we see his infested form, it is noted for sniffing and snorting only to observe things to be "not that sweet" which could indicate that there could be more of the real Geoff Shane (the murderer who goes around burning people, enjoys smelling such handiwork and can categorise the smell as being different at times) in his infested form than there ever was when he was being a resocialised Dominion marine.

The "blinking" at the very end may indicate a sort of tacit approval of the state of things. His infested form does it after feeling satisfaction at the Swarm's victory and in his "fever dream" earlier he blinks to accept that he's a psycho murderer and better off being part of the Swarm.

That's my take on it anyway.
