Because it (was) '90s sci fi. How come in SC1 there are CDs and CD drives, and computers with green text on black? How come TV screens in SC2 are all curved instead of flatscreen? How come there's analog static? Etc. It's like how Aliens or Blade Runner is '80s sci fi.

In the original broodwar intro, the glasses were a yellowish tint and frameless. So they might of been just for fashion. Or the glasses could all be computers with HUDS, like the google glasses coming out.

I know what pro-, para-, and anachronism are. 80-90's sci-fi technology pisses me off. Sci-fi media that can't be bothered to design coherent future technology is a pet peeve. As a UI designer, the best examples of sci-fi future tech done properly is Star Trek, and more media needs to follow that lead. Even though the actually technology is incredibly suspect, just seeing the ship console progression and diversity from TNG to some of the 2600-2900 time-travel brings tears.
This shit is fucking gorgeous.

^ It is nice and all but it kinda defeats the used future/cassette futurism that the Terran style is all about.
This kind of stuff wouldn't be remiss for the Protoss however.
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

While you're entitled to your opinion that is really silly. You're completely missing the point if you're looking at sci-fi for accurate predictions of the future. One of my favorite franchises-Fallout-purposely uses 1950's technology as a basis for their sci-fi universe pre-apocalypse. The purpose of it was to create a high contrasting universe pre and post the nuclear wars. The 1950s has this aestetic to it that creates a mood of happy go lucky, and yet you're stuck in a wasteland.Sci-fi media that can't be bothered to design coherent future technology is a pet peeve.

Of course a post-apocalyptic media would have a regressed technological form. But the guys in the Koprulu sector got to start off with the advanced cryo-ships they came in, and had 300 years to improve upon that, unhindered by fervent anti-technology religion (as far as we know). I simply can't believe that a people who have been cloning and terraforming for centuries, as well as been experimenting on Zerg and Protoss, don't have a strong enough grasp of DNA to eliminate near-sightedness.

We're cloning stuff right now and still don't have the ability to cure most genetic deficiencies. And if the terrans had a mastery of genetics, they would probably be engineering their warriors, as opposed to relying on convicts. Cloning is a lot easier then cherry picking genes and engineering them.

The more likely scenario is that its cheaper to re-socialize than to clone. Instead of the military government spending years taking care of babies (even with forced rapid-aging) until they become old enough to fight, they simply mind-wipe criminals who have already been supported by their own families through capitalism. Copying DNA for cloning is indeed easier than altering said DNA, but they've been doing it for hundreds of years whereas we've only been studying DNA for a little over 50, with worse equipment and religious pressure. Considering we're on the verge of creating synthetic abiogenic life, I again have trouble believing anyone in the K-sector needs glasses. Hell, we now have laser vision correction for 499$ per eye! Even without DNA manipulation glasses are simply inexcusable.
