Default James Harper good as Zeratul?

    Hello everyone!

No, this thread is not about James thinking he's been Zeratul all these years. The thread is about him actually being a fantastic replacement of the late Jack Ritschel.

Have you noticed that Gerard DuGalle actually speaks the same way as Zeratul? Voice is very similar, too. Just add some effects and lower the pitch and there you go. There was a time when I thought that both characters share the voice artist.

Voice acting is one thing, however, as Zeratul was ruined by poor writing as well... What do you think?

I'd think that a good number of people on this forum would agree with you.

I liked the voice acting, but not the lines. I think people here are too quick to hate on voice actors.

Zeratul's actor is fine. He just didn't have the opportunity to show his talent to all its extent because the lines weren't the best.

Harper proved to be the kind of actor that can do an amazing job even when he doesn't understand what he's doing... and this is honestly something to be admired. Maybe he could do anything greatly; but for a character like Zeratul, I'd feel safer with someone who cared about the story and the character's motivations.

The thing is I didn't like Mr. Tatasciore's voice acting at all. It's just not Zeratul, he sounds like a sissy, not a "badass ancient warrior". I think that Mr. Ritschel would make even the lamest lines sound awesome.

but for a character like Zeratul, I'd feel safer with someone who cared about the story and the character's motivations.
I think he would pull it off. The instruction would be simple - "just play Zeratul like you played Admiral DuGalle and we'll handle the rest".

I'm conflicted on Tatasciore's performance. I believe he can give a good performance, but he delivery so far has been lackluster; the pauses and stretched-out words bother me. If he can put some sort of "bite" into his delivery as well would go a long way to closing the gap between his Zeratul and Ritschel's.

I hate when they are changing the voice actors between parts, but for Zeratul it was unavoidable and also other replacement voice actors weren't bad. I also think it was much bigger problem in the lines they were saying than in their performance. Kerrigan wasn't very good, but like I said I think it was because she really didn't have much to say in WoL rather than because Tricia Helfer (EDIT: now her name is right, stupid mistake from me) wasn't capable actor - I like her voice and I hope HotS will be much better. Glynnis used to be great - just for the record. I was really disappointed only with Tassadar, because I loved his voice in the original, but he said only few sentences, so it wasn't game breaking.

ARTANIS to Kerrigan: "Savor this victory, Kerrigan! For the Protoss will never forget your treachery. We shall be watching you."
RAYNOR to Kerrigan: "It may not be tomorrow, darlin'. It may not even happen with an army at my back. But rest assured: I'm the man who's going to kill you some day. I'll be seein' you."

They couldn't have chosen someone who sounded older? Ah well... he did fine, I suppose. Though, like most people who played the originals, I feel the writing in Wings suffered significantly.

It's the writing. Zeratul of SC1 was eccentric, but down to earth. He speaks directly, but will use vivid descriptions to explain bigger story elements. SC2 Zeratul is tooo much poetry, not enough prose. He speaks in riddles, and it comes off like a bad immitation of a Chinese wise man.
