I liked Ergo Proxy at first, but it devolved into, "Why oh why am I useless?/Who am I?" and meaningless anime-style philosophy like that. Why is this so popular?

Uh, what are you talking about? Ergo Proxy had this whole yin-yang styled lesson involved in it, dealing with yourself as others see you, and how you see yourself, and some other great stuff.

Meaningless doesn't even get anywhere close to what Ergo Proxy is. Sure, you may get lost in it at times, but it does have a meaning to it that is up to your interpretation.

It doesn't make as nearly as much sense if you had the series to go off of. I have no idea how they will explain Kaworu to Rebuild only watchers.

Though I've yet to watch Cowboy Beebop (which, a friend assures me, is one of the best animes of all time), my vote currently goes to this show... Monster.

Cowboy Bebop was the original Firefly. Whedon basically ripped it off.

Actually, I've never really found anything bad about Monster, and I've ACTIVELY searched for bad things about it. It would be interesting to see this forum (which has a very wide range of characters) rip the show, or attempt to rip the show, apart.

Here's some of my favorite OPs from my favorite animes:

I'll admit off the bat that I'm not a big anime affecionado, and am only familiar with a few series overall. Still, looking at the animes listed and commenting where I can:

*Trigun: Liked this series. Didn't get to watch all of it, but hey, good intro, good anime. Notice that Vash comes across as actually competant in the intro, but hey, maybe that's the point.

*Cowboy Bebop: Only saw one episode and a few sfdebris reviews, but overall, didn't get into this too much. Looking at the intro, it comes across as noire. Wasn't it more of a space western?

*Neon Genesis Evangelion: Saw sfdebris reviews, saw a few episodes...

...sorry. Nothing against it, but too much of it kind of goes over my head. And looking at the intro, where's the penguin?

However, I feel I must honor here one of the greatest anime influences in many of our lives, regardless of how loved or hated it may be.

Ah, yes. A few intros in the series have come close, but IMO, none can top the original theme/opening. Kind of drifted away from Pokemon, but I admit, I definately got caught up in the craze back in the day.

I miss the nineties...

In B4 Tychus calls us all "faggots" or some such, for liking "un-manly" things.

That doesn't surprise me, but what was B4?

In B4 Hawki or DarthYam or somebody else that's overly sensitive admonishes us for going on an "angry tirade", or that we're "arrogant", etc. etc.

I dislike angry tirades because they effectively cheapen intelligent discussion into the Internet's equivalent of shouting matches. I'm not opposed to the occasional vent your spleen moment, but there's a limit.

Haven't seen much Cowboy Bebop so can't really comment, but isn't that a bit...iffy? The space western genre predates both series.
