Necessity. No wonder zerglings on space platforms are so vicious. Your armor is one of the few things standing between their slavering jaws and your meat.
SPECULATION TIME!
Shields to keep the vacuum from your face. Of course, when you run out of shields...
Purity of form. But then I wonder how he deals with the vacuum of space.
Vacuum isn't that dangerous. Human skin is elastic enough to keep up with your skin being sucked (it won't rip off or explode). Explosive decompression is basically sci-fi, not realistic. You could (theoretically, mind you) keep yourself alive with a helmet and an oxygen supply, with nothing else on. You'd probably very rapidly lose water from any exposed mucus membranes or cuts.
Space, however, still has many ways of killing you. It's cold, although I should point out that, due to lack of two of three ways of stealing heat, you wouldn't cool down that fast. But yes, eventually you'd freeze to death, assuming something else didn't kill you first.
The atmosphere protects you from radiation. There's no atmosphere in space. A bad sunburn is a severe understatement. Don't go into space unless you're done having all the children you want... and have a really good health plan.
Micrometeorites would kill you, although armor would probably protect that you. (Or, if you're zerg, regeneration.) They might hit as hard as bullets, maybe even harder, and again, the atmosphere normally cleans all that up.
And the most obvious, lack of oxygen, which can knock you out within seconds. Also, do not hold your breath. Not only will it not help (the pressure differential will cause the air to blow right out your face anyway), but your lungs will suffer damage as well.
The lack of gravity is bad for your health, at least in most ways, but you'd eventually recover from that, assuming the above list didn't kill you.

Protoss are evolved plants. Maybe they just need sunlight to survive.

Alien plants an be any color, except white. Or even that, if they used some really exotic chemicals.

Chlorophyll on earth absorbs red/orange and violet light the best. It reflects most green light, which is why plants appear green to our eyes. Likewise, Protoss absorb red, organge yellow and green, reflecting blue and purple.
