Thread: Consulting jobs/industry

    Default Consulting jobs/industry

This is a stretch, given that this is a SC forums. But I figure I'd try. (My background is a business degree in marketing).

Anyone here work/worked for the consulting industry? Whether it be tech, management, strategy consulting for Bain, McKinsey, Accenture, IBM, etc?

I got really sick of being an excel monkey at oil and gas companies here in Canada, plus I want to travel, so I figure consulting would be a good fit.

I guess to start off the discussion, has anyone known anyone who has networked their way in? Reason being is that my GPA is on the low 3 spectrum (3.0) to be exact. I know my chances are pretty much screwed for Bain, BCG, McKinsey - though I have heard of people getting into IBM/Accenture, etc with low grades. I'm currently working through case studies and this ebook I bought at a pretty infamous consulting blog.

Secondly, anyone know if anyone has gone into tech consulting without a technical degree?

And again you had to be pretty big noob about PC not to know about the change, I mean even the birds on the trees knew about it.

I'm currently studying Finance (and pre-med) while I cant give much in advice I can tell you that while 3.3 GPA is generally best. If you already have prior work history I believe that can offset your GPA, I wouldn't be overly pessimistic there's plenty of firms in the U.S.
