As for the actual keyboard, I strongly doubt it will be a regular keyboard but slapped with a SC2 theme. If that was the case, Blizzard itself would manufactuer it.

I'm thinking the keyboard will actually benifit specific gameplay abilities ingame. Like, maybe a macro button? Placement of the keys in a different way so all the hotkeys are closer together rather than far away?

I honestly can't think of 1 advantage these kind of keyboards can provide, although the g15 has programmable buttons where you can pretty much do endless macros, but that has been done already, I'm rather curious on what to expect.

In a quick defense of trackballs, I am referring to the thumb-based ones, and also I do come up front and admit: it takes about two months to get used to them. However, once I did I am actually almost twice as fast with the trackball than I am with a mouse. It's slightly less than 'twice as fast' for an RTS like SC2, but even more so for FPSs.

As far as personal experience for keyboards, none I've noticed ever did anything particularly handy, excepting maybe these ones. With those, the little gamepad on the side had most of the important hotkeys pre-mapped for you.

Whether that actually helps anybody out or not is entirely subjective and up to debate.

Yeah, I figured you were talking about those.

As for me, I've always used a standard keyboard for every game I play whether it's Starcraft, Maelstrom, Unreal or any other game.

My saitek keyboard had a little aside for hotkeys, but they never worked ingame. I got it for $20 bucks when they were selling them out at (now defunct) CompUSA.
