If, however, you have that money to spend then it's not so much of an issue. I simply recommend AMD because Intel already has enough of a market share, often through illegal means (thank you EU, for helping fix that!). What you end up putting in your machine is really up to you and your budget. If you can afford the i7, and their more expensive motherboards, then by all means go for it. You won't regret it. If, however, you want to save a little money, sacrifice a few frames per second, and go AMD, you won't regret that either.
At the moment, however, there is absolutely no doubt that ATi (owned by AMD) have the best graphics card on the market. The 5870 is a beautiful piece of machinery.
