Thread: Diablo 3 15 may

Probably going to get flamed, but I found the shot kind of disapointing.

In the end, what did we learn that we hadn't already? Already know about the Angiris Council, already know that the Great Conflict boiled down to battles like this (guessing the world shown was a demon-created one back before Inarius stole the Worldstone), already knew that Imperius was hotheaded, and the Prophecy phrase "valour shall turn to wrath" kind of covered the plot predictions for his role in 'Diablo III'. His duel with Diablo may harken to the 'rematch' (if it is indeed one) in the game, but in addition to this, none of the fight scenes lasted long enough in the shot to really make me hyped about them.

Overall, not outright "bad" and I could see this being a stepping stone to more animated projects. However, it certainly didn't provide any revelations or "wow moments" for me.

And from what I've heard, when I'm done with the game I'll be able to bench 100 kg. with my index finger.

No, I agree. I mean, I was psyched when I watched this; it was really neat finally seeing a mass of angels duke it out with a legion of demons. And the presentation of the Angiris council was neat. (I cannot wait to see what they do with Malthael in the game/expansions.) But I think this was basically to establish to new comers of the franchise the basics:

    1.) Eternal Conflict is eternal
2.) This game will be awesome
3.) Imperius has a few screws loose, showing that angels aren't all they're cracked up to be
4.) This game. Will. Be fucking. Awesome.

In an interview it was stated the cinematics department really wanted to see this done, but their pre-rendered products take too much time and manpower. Lacking time, they turned to another production studio to see this project through.

But just imagine this in Blizzard-quality cinematic goodness. Again, just as devoid of content... but in the end...

Isn't that what Blizzard is all about?

Um, isn't that a bit harsh? This is a StarCraft forum after all, and while I'm familiar with the lore of Blizzard's "big three," I don't think it's a rule that if you're familiar with one, you have to be familiar with the others by default.

You make some good points, but I still have to offer some of my own:

-Pretty sure all the Angiris members will appear in the game, though Imperius and Tyrael seem to be hogging the spotlight.

-In regards to initiating newcomers, subjective points aside (hope the game will be good myself, but again, subjective), there's still a few problems with the approach IMO:

    1) We effectively had our initiation with The Sin War trilogy and Book of Cain, not to mention that as books, they did it better.

    2) The Great Conflict ground to a halt after the Sin War effectively. Course the Prime Evils were still interested in Sanctuary and Tyrael did his own thing with the Horadrim, but we weren't getting battles like this since then. It kind of conveys a false impression to D3 newbies in this regard.

    3) Imperius, again, was established to have these traits in other material. I can see this being relevant to D3 but again, as someone who's familiar with Diablo lore, it didn't really do anything new for me.

Also, looking at other comments...am I the only one who has a soft spot for Auriel?

Mate, I think VoK's just kidding.

I'm not familiar with all the Diablo (expanded) lore either, much like I am with Starcraft. I only know what lore there was from the games and their manuals. Some fan I am, right?
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

Haha, I'm kidding. I'm just surprised Gradius is unfamiliar with Diablo, it being a Blizz game and all. That said, I avoid Warcraft like the plague.

IIRC, He's never played a Diablo game. I've made it my personal mission to convert him though

There had better not be any Dark Cultist Teeth Of Diablo involved.

No, no, no. Of course. I use only the finest quality Bartuc's sets to convert my Zealots.
