Default My memory is a bit poor but can anyone answer this question for me?

Alright remember in the last Terran mission in BW where you enslave the overmind?

You had to fight 3 different cerebrate defenses. I'm wondering again why they didn't respawn, since only dark templar energies could kill them right?

Or did it have to do with the overmind being a fledgling?

Edit: Nvm I just remember about the psi disruptor.

I never thought of the disruptor having a role in the matter, though that makes sense. I always assumed that even though the cerebrates weren't killed for good with Terran weapons, they would still take time to resurrect - time you used to get the Overmind.

It was either it took time for them to Regenerate, or that the Overmind was disrupted by the Psi Disruptor, and therefore could not regenerate them.

The regeneration takes no time. If you try to kill a cerebrate in the third mission without a dark templar, it immediately reappears. (Same in vanilla protoss 9; if you don't use Zeratul to kill a cerebrate, it comes right back.)

    Game mechanic I'd think.

Or that the Cerebrate was being directily monitored by the Overmind for regeneration.

The Overmind was still young and not nearly as powerful as the original, so when the UED forces destroyed the three cerebrates protecting the Overmind, the Overmind likely wasn't strong enough to quickly reincarnate them. Were they permanently dead? No. They were likely reincarnated later, but for the course of the mission, they weren't.

I have to disagree with that, Zero. The cerebrates reincarnated instantly back on Shakuras (the 3rd mission). The second Overmind already demonstrated the ability to reincarnate cerebrates; it doesn't make sense for it to have lost that ability.

It's possible that it was a game mechanic though, as it would be counter productive to have to wait 2 minutes for the Cerebrate to respawn before the misson would continue (and you realize that you need DTs to permakill them).

I think the Psi Disrupter screwed over the Overmind explanation is more parsimonious. There's nothing obviously wrong with it.

Instant or two minutes, why would the second Overmind, already capable of reincarnating cerebrates, suddenly lose that ability? What else could it be other than the Disrupter?
