Thread: StarCraft Dioramas

    Default StarCraft Dioramas

The first batch of StarCraft 2 dioramas from DC Unlimited has hit the shelves. And as the collector I am, I decided to go and pick them up.

The first photos before I packed them out of their rather sexy boxes became rather screwy. I need a better camera... But hey here is one not so crappy (yet blurry, sorry) of Raynor while he is still attached to the plastic:

And here he is without the plastic, fully assembled (The rifle was a bit hard to place in his hand)

Parts on Raynor as far as I know are:
    A stand
    A gun
    A Rifle
    A Raynor

    Now for Zeratul:

And yes, that stick... it goes exacly where you think it goes...

And badabing badabom en taro kaboom:

Parts on Zeratul as far as I know are:
A Head (you can look under his mask)
    A robe
    Two shoulderpads
    An arm with warp blade
    A Zeratul body
A stand with a metal pole.

And here they are both standing on my temporary SC2 museum shelf

Scientists measure a second as the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods

levels of the ground state of the caesium 133 atom.
Or the duration of 9,192,631,770 matches where David Kim crushes you head to head in StarCraft 2

I guess they look cool but the size of Raynor's hands are quite distracting. They're as big as his head. Either that or Raynor has a tiny head...
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

    Just like in the game...

Guess I might have been in denial before, but I'm really seeing the 'Warcraft-like' exaggerations on these guys now.

Raynor's arms are the same width as his legs. Sheesh!

I know that, not that that should be any excuse for it looking strange. All I'm saying is that when you're given time to look at the details of the diorama, it (the fact that if Raynor were to face-palm, his whole face would literally disappear into his own hand) sticks out especially when it shows him with one of his hands right next to his head.

I take it none of you watched the cinematics before or after release.

Long time anime fan: "You know, I just now noticed how their eyes are all disproportionately large, whereas there noses/mouths are all teeny in relation to their faces. It's really quite distracting......."

Good art style and realism are not always the same thing. I for one love the art in StarCraft and can look past some unrealistic proportions. Apparently I'm special in this.

You may be onto something there but as for me I've always been aware of how garish visuals are in works of fiction that are heavy reliant on it. At least I didn't say that it "ruined the whole thing" (nor do I feel that way) or somethings ludicrous like that, I was just making a general observation.

I don't know, maybe if Raynor, as a character, had other more interesting or distinguishing characteristics worth talking about I wouldn't have to nitpick about his hands being ginormous.
