Well I don't have that problem, never played WarCraft.

it just doesn't make much sense anyway. Did that guy go searching for the people who vanished? If he did search for them then wouldn't he have "Disappeared" too? How does he know they aren't still in the mines.
He could have found out any number of ways, the soldiers told him his brother vanished, he went to the mines and saw his brother was gone, he asked about his brother and was told he died, etc.

"after they're taken to the mines we don't see or hear from them" would have even fit better if they didn't want to go the mature route and suggest they had died down in the mines. Which is way cooler :P after all, why would they need a new batch of miners every week. Right?
Agreed that would be more clear, but still a silly line to pick on. I actually liked WoL's story, but I won't deny it had some flat lines. Why single out that one in particular when there's plenty of other fodder to be had?
    SC2 handle - "DrakeyC, code 929"

I ARE A PROPHET! I've predicted three major aspects of SC2 correct, more or less.

June 2007 - I predicted the Protoss campaign would give you new tech as you conducted diplomacy among tribes.

    Hidden Content:
July 18th 2010 - I predicted Raynor would broadcast information of Mengsk's actions on Tarsonis to discredit him and incite rebellion.

    Hidden Content:
June 16th 2010 I predicted the Voice in the Darkness was the commanding force behind the Hybrids. I'm calling it half-right.

Haha, didn't think of that when I wrote it.

I've been getting that impression too.
I just hope blizzard don't go the way of Command & Conquer games (ie. Red Alert vs. the Tiberium universe), where the developers said: "Oh, universe A is the campy and goofy one, and universe B is the more serious one".

As a starcraft fan I feel like we really got the short end of the stick. Everything in single player for SC2 seems so hacked together I just can't stand it.

the people who work on diablo and the people who work on starcraft are 2 different teams.

you comment on how amazing diablo 3 was, but don't forget just how amazing 1 and 2 were as well. if you like that team so much then maybe you should petition them to work on starcraft instead.

of course with the diablo team working on sc2 i can't help but think the game would turn into warhammer 40k which is all about its dark atmosphere.

Hmmm, I wonder what your thoughts are on what the Warcraft franchise has become after what WoW has done to it in terms of lore.

I don't think SC is becoming campy or goofy but it does appear to be getting rather Terran-centric with "ooh look, alien bugs and whiz-bang aliens!" on the side.

Starcraft had its roots in 40k a long time ago - just look at how grim SC1 gets.

Well, I can't comment on the Warcraft franchise since I have never played any of those games, nor have I followed any of its lore. My exposure to this franchise has been limited to cutscenes on youtube.
Same goes with both previous Diablo games. The difference is that what I've seen from D3, made me want to jump right into that universe.

When I express concern regarding campy/goofiness I am generally thinking of stuff like some of the bad dialog we've heard in SC2, or cookie-cutter villains like the Dark Voice.
(I'll stop my list at that, I don't want to contribute in derailing a thread into another long "what's wrong with the writing/story" discussion :þ )
