Sigh, I'll miss the rich colourful colour schemes SC2 alpha had...
Now everything is watered down and faded.

I know that this was said in at least 3-4 interviews. Most notably Samwise's most recent ones
*nods* We'll see how it goes, I'm on the fence, where it could be either way.
Interesting how things change over 2 years... this would have got you skewered then. Agreed?

WOW I never realized how terrible the game looked back then...
Sonic: [dressed as a cop] Let me speak to the driver.
Grounder: I'm not driving. He is!
Scratch: No I'm not.
Sonic: Driving without a driver? Now you're really in for it.
Sonic: You know? I sure have fun.

One thing I really liked about the the Ice tileset was the high water. I used it to create an inverted island map called "Netherlands". The main islands were all on low ground surrounded by cliffs that led to the high water so you couldn't see what was approaching until the enemy attacked, and the expansions were on high ground — level with the water.
There was one problem with the map though. Terrans and Protoss could use the small strip of high ground surrounding each base to build PCs and MTs on, while the zerg couldn't build anything unless there was creep, which needed a Hatchery but didn't matter anyway because the strip wasn't wide enough to let the creep spread even if you managed to find space for a Hatchery.
My other favorite tileset was the Space tileset. It offered three distinct buildable terrain levels, with each blocking LoS from the one below it. It also had those infantry-only ramps in the form of stairs and three distinct bridge lengths. You could really do a ton of stuff with that tileset.

In addition to the snow on the buildings, they could give off steam. Now that would REALLY be amazingly cool!

I think they mentioned pretty early on that the concept of "tileset" is a thing from the past. If you want you can have Lava and desert on the same map. If that is a good idea is a different issue...
