Thread: Unit Pictures

I remember him being an incredibly enormous cloud of darkness that could swat aircraft out of the sky and such from that 2nd Dark Templar saga book, but I read it years ago and don't have access to a quote. Huge huge huge though.

Ulrezaj aside, since the 7 templar combined makes him a weird case, do normal archons even have a real body, or is it just psionic energy in the form of a Protoss? Because, if it's all energy, then its size could just depend on how powerful that particular archon is.

About dragoons again, I agree with DefilerRulez, that if you can sense the other person's feelings, it's not like you need to see their facial expressions. Maybe an unarmed/unarmored dragoon-type exoskeleton is simply viewed as a prosthesis for peacetime as well, though not having hands is a bit weird.
I don't think the dragoon encasing is 100% permanent because we can assume that the Protoss' body was moved from the lower body to the upper one when a dragoon is upgraded to an immortal, but it may be permanent in that they need to live in a life support pod forever.

For example, Ulrezaj is small compared to this massive entity from Frontline, but he has survived in Archon form for quite some time.
How big was that Arcon? Because Ulrezaj was fucking massive in the Dark Templar saga.

It was kind of ridiculous then, if there's something bigger, well, I won't even ask wtf Blizzard.

My interpretation was that his energy cloud was enormous, but he was not much bigger than a regular archon.

So then wtf with the large Frontline Archon? Seems kind of stupid to have such a thing seem more powerful (bigger is always better as we all know ) than something as crucial to the storyline as Ulrezaj.

    Well I'm annoyed as fuck.

I have a sketch of a Protoss skeleton but my scanner's not working, so you'll have to make due with this sketch I did a while back of a skull. As for the musculature, I had delineated everything on the Zeratul Orthos concept art that was analogous in the human body. It's all exact human musculature. :\ The only fun part was figuring out how the hands and feet worked.

    EDIT Wait, fixed it!

    Aaand sold.

Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow

    Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

Eh, if I think it is what I think it is, that was a Twilght Archon.

You know what crazy stuff happens when you have Void and the Khala work in unison.

I agree with Gradius, we just can't tell Ulrezaj's size from his attacks. I just couldn't believe a carefully planned use of energy would still create a monstrous Archon. I compared Ulrezaj to the tunnels of the caves and made up a size on that. That's smaller than the Frontline Archon. It might be smaller than the chart's Dark Archon, but there might be bigger tunnels.

I'm also sure that archons/dark archons have a bit of control over the extent of energy and gas pouring out of them— like, when they go inside shuttles, I bet they tone it down a little bit, and then to attack they can amplify and extend it in a directed fashion.

I love this, but I must admit that I'm quite surprised by your choices regarding the legs— giving them a second tibia and fibula, that is (unless I'm misinterpreting the drawing, which is totally possible; I'm not a medical illustrator :P). I would think that, given the analogousness of basically the entire rest of the skeletal structure to life on Earth, that part of the leg would either be comprised of elongated metatarsals, as in mammals,

Or, possibly more likely, with a fused tarsometatarsus, as in birds. No way they were actually adding an extra joint. Basically, Protoss feet = ostrich feet. :P

That Zeratul concept definitely has a heel though, which birds and cats don't. So for that drawing I was playing with the idea that they would actually have 4 toes-worth of phalanges, but the rear two have fused into a human-like heel, but, of course, there are animals with different numbers of fingers and toes, so that's not necessary.

More "evidence" on what Robear said. Two knee joins means we lose some more mechanical efficiency. If Protoss developed two joints in an early stage of their evolution, standing up straight might be the highest possible outcome. A secondary joint wouldn't translate into speed or strength. The complicated design would just survive if its existence was aesthetical, like our tailbone. Only a really early development of psionic powers would be able to do this. Lore indicates legs do serve a purpose, or Protoss might have ingored that they have been running with their minds their whole existence.

Ostrich legs don't have an extra joint, their feet are just really large. Their knees are just higher up their body. The legs work more like giant springs; because tendons create this movement, not muscles.
