Hey, Grad, question: would you be able to take several snap shots of that Battlecruiser for me from different angles? Underside, stern, bow, profile, top-down, etc.?![]()

Aaand sold.

Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

I wanted to link you guys to this site I found approximating the dimensions of the Hyperion.
In summary, he gives the width of the Hyperion, from wing tip to wing tip, as 937.5 meters; and the width of the hammer head as 656 meters (approx. 70% wing width); and adds in some calculations for the Yamato beam, including width and force, force being equal to 642 teratons/second.
Now I'm terrible with math, but assuming the wingspan is 80% the length of a battlecruiser, then the Hyperion should be about 1171 meters long, yeah?

This guy is just not right. You can't use a Brood War window on a SC2 model.
I'll tell you what though, there are ~3 meter observation deck windows on SC2's battlecruiser. They're just not on the bottom of the ship any more. I'm ~90% sure that the bigger blue windows on the model are 3m tall, while the smaller white ones are more like 2m.
(The cluster of white ones on that top middle section is the bridge, with ~2m windows.)
Here's the inside of Valerian's observation deck, note how the windows are slanted like the big blue ones above.
So, then, sure, there is a set of windows on the bottom, where the Brood War observation deck should be... but they're the smaller, presumably 2m white ones, not the larger blue ones.
The Brood War BCs just have different windows, we've established this.
OR, all of the white windows are really 3m tall, Valerian's nice observation windows are really a set of the white ones, and we've just never seen the interior of the blue ones, which are even bigger. Then I would agree with this guy, more or less, and then yeah, the SC2 one is back to being in the same range as the BW model, and we would all be happy.
Okay, I guess my drawing isn't precise enough for us to settle this. Either I'll make my own 3D model (which will take a long time), or, could someone maybe PM me a link to the extracted version of the one from the game so I can experiment with it? I'd do it myself but I'm on a mac, and don't have a way to import m3 files... I have access to Blender and Maya, so if anyone knows of a link to the model in a format like .3ds or whatever, it'd be appreciated.
I might just make my own though. Make a mockup of the observation deck, a mockup of the bridge, have them in there.
Also, still not done, just reporting in, still working on that Leviathan.
I hope to finish all this sometime in November— exactly a year after I 'finished' the WoL version. Seems fitting.![]()

I'll have a moe thorough response later on. I just have two notes to put out there.
1.) I've been loving your work on the Leviathan. You're style and skill have come a looong way. I'd love to see some original artwork some time.
2.) We won't always be able to go by the game itself for the proper scaling. I was rewatching the Heart of the Swarm intro (love it) and noted some mutalisks flying by the falling battlecruiser. They were extremely tiny by comparison, when compared to the mutalisks in Escape From Mar Sara.
A lot of the time, things are scaled in the game in order to deliver the most impact rather than realism. There will always be inconsistencies between your work and what we see. I personally hold the high-quality cinematics as highest "canon". The rest will be up to your best judgment.

hmm, could you possibly do the 4 unique primmal strains, notably the ''zergling''and''ultralisk'' as well as a ravasaur and tyranozaur just to be there
- I also agree that you could do a super battlecruiser, but the model in lost Viking with the chainguns o the back nacles as well, and the pirate capital ship, a bit larger than the hyperion- 1.5x a minotaur?
also a light infantry and a infested civilian and normal civivlian would be good
but only if you have time, do not rush yourself the amount of work you put in is amazing

Disagree w/ everything. Like Robear pointed out, there are other windows, and it's the wrong type of battlecruiser. You also can't measure based on pixels in a picture, as it doesn't account for perspective. He should have looked at the actual 3d model.
For the yamato calculation he randomly decides that the armor is 7.5 m thick. Not that I can do any better, but there's a reason people don't do calculations like this.

Hah, thanks man, although I think a big part of it is that I'm putting in much more effort time into the Leviathan since it'll be so high res. I don't actually do that much original artwork, maybe the occasional portrait or something, but honestly this project is most of the spare time art I've been doing. I've also done some original ships designs for a mobile phone game which I'll publicize if it ever gets finished, but they're hardly different than what's here. :P
Hah, yeah, I remember coming across some poster who tried to calculate the size of that one and got something like 5km. Biggest battlecruiser ever! Can't find it now though... :/
I just have to assume that they got that number from one of the books or something, or an earlier calculation. They're clearly a real fan, they can't've completely made it up, or they wouldn't be thinking about these things. :P It's just too bad they didn't have access to HotS at the time, where a Yamato cannon is shown again in the "Choices" cutscene. For the yamato calculation he randomly decides that the armor is 7.5 m thick. Not that I can do any better, but there's a reason people don't do calculations like this.
I still just don't feel like doing the primals— maybe eventually, but I won't be trying to finish them for this November release. I may or may not do the pirate capital ship, it does seem to be a fan-favorite, so I might just make up a length and throw it in, yeah.hmm, could you possibly do the 4 unique primmal strains, notably the ''zergling''and''ultralisk'' as well as a ravasaur and tyranozaur just to be there

And yes, I will be doing the Loki/Prototype superbattlecruiser— I plan on just copy/pasting the bridge of the minotaur cruiser onto the new drawn parts, so expect it to be Minotaur-sized, but longer and with the whole chaingun deal. Not as big as the gorgon. Probably kind of like the in-game models.
I do love Starcraft: Ghost, but, I still probably won't end up doing these because they'll be more or less the same size as the Spectre, Ghost and Reaper, and that is already the most crowded area of the chart— I have no room for the labels!also a light infantry and a infested civilian and normal civivlian would be good
So, they might get left out once again.
Thank you!but only if you have time, do not rush yourself the amount of work you put in is amazing
Please, find me a source, and I will make it whatever size you want!*cought, cough, brutalisk size
But, seriously guys, thanks for all the feedback, info gathering and support, this project might exist without you, but it'd definitely be much worse.
After this release and then up until LotV's inevitable huge revamp, all I want to do is learn to texture/light/render 3d models and make a love-letter animation to the terran fleet. Something like the first few shots of this most excellent animation of SpaceSepp's in the pre-SC2 days, only more, and with accurate models, showing a wraith taking off from its hangar, all that good stuff. That is my dream for this upcoming winter break, I really need to learn that stuff.
