    Hey, Robear.

    I know you found a ton of images that had the Zerg Leviathan from the intro and end cinematic, but do you know if there's any more objective view of it.

    I'm trying to find someplace where I can correlate it to the in-game model and I'm failing.

    At least I found this:



    Of course that's just for the ones with Zerglings and Hydralisks. Obviously ones with Ultralisks and Hatcheries are bigger.

    I do like that it notes that the Zerg are actually grown and incubated within the Sacs. They don't actually load the Sacs with Zerg.

    I posted that image months ago, that was my reference for my Sac drawing, though I scaled it up a bit. :P

    And I've got you covered for the Leviathan, though again I think you should've seen this before. Or maybe this is one of the images you were referring to. I don't have any better views, but it makes perfect sense to me.





    Those lines are crappy but you get the picture. Aside from a the underside spikes being smaller and there being a lot more of them, the only real difference is instead of just two massive, solid claw things pointing downwards, the cinematic version has a few more of them and they're supported a bit more tentacle-like at their bases... Not unlike the spine crawler tentacles they threw on the in-game version, so I think that's what those are.



    I'm guessing they only built the portion of the rear section that the vikings fly by in high detail, with the sac beaks sticking out, and the rest is low detail and projection mapped / painted by matte painters, like Mengsk's palace. So I doubt a more objective view exists except in concept art— the other shot I have from the ending cinematic matte painting is a different picture with the tentacles all in different positions, but it's pretty much the same angle again.

    I was just trying to find one that shows a bit more from a different angle.

    While I know it is similar with the in-game cinematic one, more so than the strictly game one, a lot of the proportions are way off.



    The front half and back half have different proportions between each other for the different models. Nothing fits with the biggest bone protrusion on the screen, and there's no way to show the area where the Sacs should be while having the head that small. There's just really no way to emulate the shot with the Editor model given that discrepancy.



    This would suggest that the two tentacles with leaf-ends are protruding from an area with Sacs, but the editor model has them popping out of the top, which is Sac free in both models...

    I was trying to get a different view of it to see if I could equate some part of it with the editor one.

    From these shots I can't exactly find a good place to put a sac pimple location on the in-game cinematic Leviathan.

    I was trying to see how different the scale would be considering my scaling based off of Kerrigan's dropship entering the Leviathan sets it at 35 kilometers long...

    While digging through the Heroes of the storm client I managed to find a large amount of SC2 Development assets. All Icons

    Hey, the trailer for the Starcraft tech manual is here! Looks like there's a ton of new artwork and illustrations, a lot more to go on. Also each unit looks like it shows the unit's silhouette next to a dude, but it looks like the silhouettes of the in-game models, rather than new artwork. Still! I'm excited.



    They also aren't completely pretending the BW designs never existed, they have SC1 and SC2-style hydralisk illustrations! Some of the other artwork is pretty much just the in-game model designs with a bunch more details added, like the wraith.

    Yes! Sorry everyone for both the secrecy and lack of posts here, which abruptly stopped in April. It was because I signed an NDA. So, I actually kept doing art for the scale charts, in a big flurry, and just wasn't posting it here. And then I also got slightly burned out on those drawings once I was done with the new stuff for this, and got a new job (in a bookstore, unrelated to video game/art stuff), so I hadn't yet resumed posting much. Anyway.

    ALSO, these aren't just the exact same charts you've already seen posted here. Mostly they're the same, but some of the older drawings have been slightly revised, there are new units, and crucially, a bunch of the sizes have been updated, and these new ones are ~Blizzard-approved. So, once the book is out, we will all have new revised scale charts!
    I have been waiting patiently for October, and will continue to do so, but now you can all wait with me. :P Thanks everyone here for the support and research help and everything over the years.

    All that said, I am not a Blizzard employee or anything like that. This isn't me announcing I got a job there or anything, I work in a bookstore and this was a licensing agreement. So I/we still have work to do.

    Whoop! Congrats!

    Did you actually get to talk to them about the different sizes and everything?

    Obviously the NDA means we can't get into gritty details, but did you talk about the whole 560 L, 82 W Battlecruiser at all?
