Thread: Unit Pictures

If you mean the ones that come out of the scourge nests in HotS, yeah, I did a drawing for them a while ago, though I haven't gotten around to sticking 'em in the chart yet.

Been making lots of little updates. For example, I shortened the tall pylon things that were too tall on the science vessel, and added some thickness to the bottom of the Command Center, something that had been bothering me for months! You can compare the new and the old.

Also moved the Brood Mother down to lurker-size, fits much better here, I think.

Right now the Koramund only looks like this, trying to work out what the back should look like. But it's gonna be pretty great.

Just saw this and did a quick search.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fission-fragment_rocket

the wiki page has two diagrams, both are equally usable.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=frag...%3B2806%3B1321

This a good old school design of a basic thermal nuclear engine using L-Hydro fuel; but it's lay out may provide you with some sense of placement for the Frag Nuke Engine.

I can't find any schematics for the Frag Nuke Engine that include the magnetic traps. The one diagram on the wiki page seems to be the best bet. If you combine that diagram with the thermal nuclear design you should achieve a convincing engine that you could replicate in the BCs Engine Block. I imagine these things would be HUGE and there would be more or equal to 5 of these puppies in that hull. 4 of them would be the main impulse drives (the four big exhausts we see at the BCs aft) while a fifth one would pipe it's thrust through the smaller retro engines we see like the ones on the "Wing Roots" for maneuvering.

Hm... considering these qualifiers, are you considering working on an Overmind and Cerebrate?

Thanks for the suggestion, Einharjar. Looks a lot more realistic than the VASIMR drives I originally had. I'll have to do some more research on how those fragment drives function before drawing it into the final design.

I bet the NSA is probably wondering why I'm looking up nuclear reactor cross sections now.

EDIT Einharjar, is this what you were talking about?

Hey, the forums are back up.

Definitely doing the Overmind and a cerebrate, though the Overmind's gonna be something like 3km tall. Might also do a large hive, which will be something like 1km high. No idea how big the cerebrate should be, what do you all think? I'm pretty sure Queen of Blades, the book, described Zeratul killing Zasz, anyone with a copy want to review that part and see if there're any clues? Probably more like the size of my hatchery, I would guess.

Also, want to see something cool? :P

IIRC, Zasz should be no larger than a semi-truck container. Zeratul killed him at his "throne room" cave. Several Ultralisks were inside of the same room. Zeratul used his energy blade as a beacon of energy and then killed Zasz with it.

    Nice video ^^

Cerebrate I would say around the height of the bw ultralisk

Also how big is that behemoth

It's like 1.36 km. The one in the chart is like 1.35. I'm pretty okay with it, the only thing I think is off in the video is that those banshees are too big.

Alright, I'll try out those cerebrate options once I've drawn one.

Haha, as long as you don't have the M.I.B. knocking on your door it's all good.

Yes that link shows how an Frag Nuke Drive works. There are two methods however displayed on the wiki page. One uses disks, and the other is a "Dusty Plasma Bed".

Well, after a moment of thought, Einharjar, I realized we'll need more than just five engines. Allow me to visually demonstrate.

Sorry, I got really bored and decided to go all FX crazy with this. Anyways, ignoring the glowy bits at the end of the wings; it looks as though there area a minimum of ten major exhaust ports (main engine block of four; brake thrusters of two, and four additional wing-mounted thrusters), 5 minor ports in the aft engine block, and a possible two additional "brake" thrusters on the upper superstructure. Not only that, but would having a Colossus reactor be redundant, seeing as how each engine has its own self-contained nuclear reactor?

Are there any examples, in aviation or otherwise, where thrust engines have more than one exhaust port that they can use interchangeably?
