Thread: Unit Pictures

I never liked that picture because Raszagal just looks like a child version of Zeratul in it. :/ Like, his one hand is the size of her entire torso, and she's just wearing the exact same clothes as him. It didn't actually show up anywhere official, right? I am willing to disregard it. :P
Or I could redraw her with my version's head but that Zeratul body.

I scaled up Fenix's dragoon a bit more, made Raszagal's fingers a bit shorter, and added ZealotFenix. Dat classic design.

Amazing work I only don't like Raszagal's hands :S but the rest is perfect
But I was thinking about the Cerebrates, Zasz is a normal Cerebrate, but Daggoth is classified like a Senior Cerebrate, so I think he was much bigger of the others Cerebrates and the background I think represent the slime of the creature, normaly the Cerebrate have green slime, so I think Daggoth have blue slime like the backgroud (in other words I think the background of portrait is the slime) what do you think?

On the topic of Dragoons, I've always thought Zealots fought for decades, sustaining numerous injuring and incurring more and more cybernetic prostheses. By the time a Templar is ready to be interred in a Dragoon, there's not much left of them aside from vital organs and a functional brain. Templar literally squeeze every last ounce out of themselves before volunteering for Dragoon services. This would make the whole "sawing off the legs and arms" thing a moot point.
    Aaand sold.

    Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

I love this idea. It's not like the most advanced race in the galaxy can't make some prosthetic limbs and has to hack off all the others once an arm or something goes down. :P

This is a viable path to become a Dragoon, but it can't be the only one. I'd imagine there'd be at least quite a few unlucky Zealots who would be cut down/crippled/suffered near fatal injury in the first few years in battle but would still like to serve without requiring to lop their limbs off. For example, Fenix seemed to be pretty hale before being interred in a Dragoon from grievous injury. He probably took one too many Hydralisk spines to the chest or head maybe, so I can't imagine that the unncessary removal of limbs would be the something they'd want to inflict on their patient in addition to stuffing them into a confined shell for the rest of their lives. Fenix, being who he is, probably may not mind such a process but I can't imagine everyone else being Ok with that.
Yes, that's right! That is indeed ME on the right.

This is some good lore discussion.

(@Zarxiel, thanks, and yeah, I'll believe that Daggoth was an extra big and blue-slimy cerebrate. Still probably only going to draw one for the chart and just label it "cerebrate," instead of filling up the chart with 6 or so giant worms.)

About Fenix in particular, he was a lot more than just shot with spines; the official Samwise art of him actually shows him missing half an arm and both legs, with guts falling out.

I'd forgotten you could see so much because the wiki has a version cropped before the legs. :P

But, you're right that there would be Protoss who still had them.
Aside from their nerve cords, though, maybe khalai Protoss don't really mind having cybernetically altered bodies. Like, rather than seeing the dragoon or stalker as a confining shell, the SC1 manual says that

By focusing through the Khala, the fallen warriors can control the movements of the Dragoon as naturally as if they were within their former bodies.
On the other hand, it also says that

Veteran Protoss warriors who have been crippled or mortally wounded in combat can volunteer to continue their service... by being transplanted into Dragoon exoskeletons.
Implying that some crippled or mortally wounded Zealots would rather continue being crippled or dying than be stuck in one... Although I guess prior to the Zerg, there was probably no threat to the entire Protoss race, so there was probably no shame in being an elderly retired veteran and then dying peacefully.

Do we know for sure though if Protoss are permanently affixed to their walker though? In times of peace would they be given leg and arm prostheses in order to socialize normally?

Did you guys know that in the archon birth animation, it actually starts as a tiny archon and then grows to 2-3 times its size?

I'd say that was designed for animation purposes though. I still wonder, though, how large can Archons get? In frontline there's was this massive Archon, created by two "lovers". They probably grow when surrounded by powerful energies. For example, Ulrezaj is small compared to this massive entity from Frontline, but he has survived in Archon form for quite some time. He probably consumes less energy that way.
