It's an incomplete unit found in the editor IIRC. The large blue Primal was used instead.

Have you ever thought about doing Brood War era versions of the Protoss probe and observer?

Hey, all, no new images to post right now, sorry, just responding to the past week's comments.
Thank you! And don't worry about spamming, I think we're all into this sort of thing. Unfortunately, I couldn't actually find the map when I searched for it...? I want to play it, though.
I'm aware that the Nomad doesn't quite match the in-game model because I based it on the concept art version, maybe I'll edit it a little bit to change the orientation of the construction arms, but, anyway, that's why.Originally Posted by Nolanstar
As for the Thor, I'm okay with the way my thor looks. You're right that the over-the-shoulder guns might be a bit big, but I think they'll provide a good contrast with the Odin, when I ultimately do draw it, which will adhere more to these proportions.
Really I should have just made up my own details/proportions instead of drawing the in-game model, but, it was a call I had to make to go back and re-edit as few of these as I can, just because if I spent let's say another hour on every unit whose picture I wasn't satisfied with, well, that would add dozens of hours to the project. A bunch of the early drawings bother me, but I have to move on.
As for the screenshots from the editor— still no plans to do primals. And I won't do the Hercules battlecruiser in there because, while I'd like to have a Hercules-class in the chart, that particular 3D model is literally the same as the final Minotaur model, just with a different texture. So while I do think Hercules battlecruisers exist, I don't think they should look like that, and there is no alternative design for them.
That Hurricane-class missile cruiser might make its way in, I do love the design. I just hate the name. Hercules is bad enough, just a mythological figure rather than a monster (like the other classes; behemoth, leviathan, minotaur), but a hurricane is just a hurricane. Boring. So maybe I'll cheat and call it a cruiser rather than a battlecruiser or something, I dunno. :P I guess I shouldn't make stuff like that up.
You never followed up about the Zerg Behemoth— do you have any other images of it? Still very, very interested.
I certainly have! But I doubt it'll happen.
Ahh, would that I could, but I kind of decided towards the beginning to either merge the old and new designs together (as in the overlord) or to just pick one. The only exceptions were supposed to be when lore-wise they were actually supposed to be different units (like the arclite and crucio siege tanks) or when they were different sizes (like the old and new ultralisks).
So for some of the units I've already drawn a merged-design version. Like, the hydralisk that's in there isn't entirely the SC1 or the SC2 design. If I decide to draw the SC1 and the SC2 hydralisks, then I have to take out the 'mixed' hydralisk, and I don't want to do that...
For some units there would be so many versions to cover. Like, there are 4 goliath designs, plus the mercenary goliath variant. The chart would be huge...
(Except I did break the rule for zerglings; I drew 4 designs, 3 of which are currently in the chart. So, there is that. I love zerglings much more than observers.)
Here's a possibility though: maybe in addition the the LotV update, I could just do a Retro Starcraft to Scale version, with only the Brood War units, using only their Brood War appearances. That would actually be really cool!
Man, I just love making too much work for myself. :/

Robear: I just wanted to point out real quick that it seems the size of an Overlord can vary. As written here, it seems implied that Overlords can be made to grow beyond their usual size in order to accomodate other Zerg creatures. To that end I might depict your "standard" Overlord as being rather small, perhaps as large as depicted in StarCraft Ghost, then show successively larger silhouettes to show its growth potential, the largest of course being capable of carrying Ultralisks.
Aaand sold.
Be it through hallowed grounds or lands of sorrow
The Forger's wake is bereft and fallow
Is the residuum worth the cost of destruction and maiming;
Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?
The road's goal is the Origin of Being
But be wary through what thickets it winds.

I feel this makes sense among Zerg units. IIRC Zerglings would contest against each other when out of combat in order to leave only the stronger larger strains. Although there are differences among each strain, the variation is small for small units. We should actually take into consideration the size change from larger units though. For example, BW Ultras into BW Torrasque Ultras (which are still supposed to be dominant over SC2 ultras according to lore, but were not fleshed out by the art team).
This guy is supposed to be about the size of the Brutalisk according to an artwork displayed at BlizzCon 2011.

I think we're all on the same page with this, guys. I certainly said and posted this about overlords at least half a year ago. :P
and I'm pretty sure back in 2012 I used this 'size variation depending on intended application' rationale to explain the giant scourge that took down the Norad II in that cinematic, but I'm not going to dig back through the thread to look for it. Like, I'm sure there are much smaller and much larger Leviathans out there, depending on the brood they contain.
I don't really think I'll include bigger/smaller versions though, just a footnote saying Zerg units can grow to vary in size.
EDIT: rahhhh, Leviathan drawing halfway done.
It's not even fun to work on any more, but it'll be great when it's done / to be done with it.
