Like Dsquid I was very happy to hear that they were willing to remove lame and useless units in the expansion to make way for better ideas. Here are my choices.

Protoss (removal): Phoenix - I would like to see this replaced or massively updated. Nothing about this unit feels protoss from a lore standpoint, its ability can be interesting, but isn't epic. From a game play stand point, it can't attack buildings!!! Its fragile and has limited use... the end.

Carrier: I really do love this unit, but its just not used. I don't know if I buy into the lore reasons to not like this unit that DS always has, but it could make way for a really cool new capital ship.

    (update):

Observer - slow cloaked and boring... needs an ability or something more unique.

Dark Templar - Love to see this unit as something other than a one trick pony. Once detection comes out they are useless... it would be nice to expand on their assassin role.

Archon - Lets make a reason to build these, even if its as a super counter to massive or something weird like that, an ability, I don't know, but right now they aren't seen that often.

Mothership - Make it something to be feared or cut it.

    Zerg (removal)

    Overseer- For reasons blizzard stated.

Roach - This unit has struggled since beta to find a place, and it just ended up with no real special role... its a generic ranged unit.

Corruptor- Also a cool original idea gone wrong, cut your losses and move on.

Ultralisk- As much as I love Zerg Tier 3, the ultralisk could be replaced and I would shed a tear.

(updated) - Hydra: could have stat tweaks and maybe a new upgrade to bring this unit back to the swarmy status it once had.

Infestor - I would love to see mind control replaced with something more useful.

    Terran (replace)
reaper- not seen in game, role overlap with hellion.
Banshee- also a one trick pony, like the dark templar

    Updated

Marauder- make this unit into a true support unit.
Thor - Could use some tweaks and a new ability
Raven - I'd like to see some ability tweaks here

    The end.

people can debate about why every unit should go, no unit is really safe from fan criticism, but what blizzard is probably only looking at is what is not working. even if people don't use a unit as much as others, it still does what it's suppose to do and it works fine. the overseer obviously is not meeting those standards.

here is a thought. in sc1 protoss had more units than the other races because to blizzard archons don't count. while the other races got 2 new units in broodwar, protoss got 3. what if the overseer didn't count? blizzard could remove all of the overseers abilities and instead of it being it's own unit, it would be seen as the overlords ability like the archon is for high templar.

it's removing the unit without removing it. this leaves the zerg open for something new.

Considering that they don't want to add more units

I didn't know Blizzard had specifically stated they didn't want to add more units and were willing to remove some... can anyone provide a link to that info? Or can someone confirm whether or not these things were, in fact, hinted at or said?

I completely understand removing units if necessary and wouldn't be surprised if they said they would consider it, but I didn't know they didn't want to potentially add some new units by the end of the trilogy.

I expect you to keep up to date with the latest news and interviews if you want to discuss the game intelligently.

Seems like too many of these removal or tweak ideas are stemming from units that annoy the suggester. The marauder needs to be turned into more of a support unit? Really? Lets completely ignore the fact that all of the secondary tier one units are armored. Not to mention every tier 3 ground unit is armored and has exceptionally high HP. Are marines and tanks supposed to handle everything from start to finish?

I agree there is room for improvement almost across the board for all three races, but come on... Roaches need to be removed? Observers need to do something else? Banshees are a one trick pony? If anyone hasn't watched the GSL, NASL, or any recent tournaments I really recommend you do and see just how diverse some of the strategies are becoming. The only unit that really deserves a complete rework or removal in my opinion is the Overseer which is the common consensus from what I can tell.

When we asked that to Dustin regarding scraping units he hinted at the Overseer. This unit could get scrapped. The corrupter is also a strong candidate.

He also mentioned the problem was that this unit costed no supply. So you could have 100 overseers in addition to your army. So I think if they gave this unit a mild attack and the ability to contaminate defenses at the cost of 2 supply that would be good.
Hey guys I want you all to know that my team is playing/did great this weekend so I am going to go ahead and make it my status because I know you all care and want to know my opinion on it.

The units annoy us because they suck. They're inflexible like the Reaper, or redundant like the Banshee, or straight up considered overpowered like the Marauder. The Carrier and Mothership are both utterly unneeded, and in this supposedly "new and improved" game both the Archon and Observer get not one new feature. Our gripes are not unreasoned nor unreasonable.
