We also have to consider that the books that make up the Bible were selected by the Roman Emperor Constantine. Even though he had the Council of Nicea determine which books were canon and which ones weren't, you have to remember that he was the emperor, and he could have any bishop that didn't agree with him killed. So basically, it was "My way or the highway", when the Bible was first put together.

Secondly, the person who wrote Revelations, "John", expected these events to happen in his lifetime. How long has it been since he died? About two millennia.

Third, why the hell would Jesus want to return to Earth, anyway? Even if you believe the Biblical version of his resurrection and ascension to Heaven, we probably traumatized the poor guy so much that just mentioning "Earth" would send him into shock. The only way I can see him returning is like this:
