Notably IM does not qualify for this since they don't have enough players in Code S and Code A.

Explanation for why IM did not qualify...
The method they use to choose teams is as follows:
    Total Points = (1.6x + 1y) where
x = number of players in Code S
y = number of players in Code A

    oGs : 13.8 (8+1)
    TSL : 10.0 (5+2)
    Prime : 9.0 (5.1)
    StarTale : 8.8 (3+4)
    SlayerS : 8.6 (1+7)
    MVP : 7.6 (1+6)
    ZeNEX : 6.2 (2+3)
    fOu : 5.6 (1+4)
    IM : 5.2 (2+2)
    NS호서 : 3.6 (1+2)
    Liquid : 3.2 (2+0)
    FOX : 1.6 (1+0)

HUGE CHANGES TO THE GSL AND GSTL FORMAT:
Code S Group League Match Format Change

    - Pre-existing GOMTV League Format -> Dual Tournament Format

    - Group stage games will always have 5 sets and the last game will be the deciding game for 2nd and 3rd Place.

    - From each group, 3rd Place will stay in Code S and 4th Place will go through Up and Down Match.

    - 1st and 2nd Place from each Group will advance to Ro16

l Code A Morning Time Broadcast

    - For the 5 days of the first week, Code A games will be broadcasted at 1:10 PM.

    - Starting from the second week, Code A game will only be broadcasted at 7:10 PM.

l Up & Down Match Format Change

    - Code A Winner will automatically advance to Code S without going through Up & Down Match

    - MLG Winner will receive a GSL Code S seed for the following month. (Even if the winner is a Korean player, the seed will be provided). If the winner turns down the Code S seed or is already a Code S player then the runner-up will be given the seed.

    - Code S 4th Place Players (8) + Code A Top 7 = 15 players

    - Players will be divided into 3 groups of 5.

    - One group per day will be broadcasted. Each group’s 1st and 2nd Place will advance to Code S.

l GSTL 2 Group Full League

    - Every Thursday and Friday, GSTL 2 Group Full League will be held.

    - The current 10 SC2 pro teams will be divided into 2 groups of 5.

    - Each team will go through a full league and top 3 teams from each group will advance to the playoff (20 matches / twice a week = will be broadcasted for 10 weeks).

    - Playoff will be played with the following format: Group A 1st Place vs. (Group B 2nd Place vs. Group A 3rd Place) / Group B 1st Place vs. (Group B 3rd Place vs. Group A 2nd Place)

I just got a headache. I thought it couldn't be more complicated than what it was in the past GSLs. Guess I was wrong...

LOL. I try to simplify it.

Code S: They're adjusting group stage in Code S RO32. 4th place in group goes to Up/Down matches. The rest stay in Code S. Top 2 in each group advance to RO16.

Top 8 Code A: Winner of Code A goes to code S. 2nd to 8th place go to up/down matches.

Up/down matches: Played by 4th place players from Code S group stages. Played by 2nd-8th in Code A. Total of 15 players fighting for 6 spots for code S.

MLG: Winner/runnerup of MLG gets code S. Additionally mentioned before Gom would pay for them to fly over, etc.

I still dislike the group stage... but I am glad that the MLG winner gets a code S seed instead of a code A seed... a whole month in korea before even having the possibility to get code S prizes made it a bad deal.

Your source for sound, logical and reasonable responses.

    @TRD
Well it was already planned from the beginning. It won't apply to MLG Columbus of course. But at every event after Columbus whoever in the top 3 doesn't have a Code S seed can get one from Gom (according to MLG). Seems like gom is making it stricter to be winner/runnerup only.
