    Default Atrox - SC1 Clone

Man this is ridiculous. How is that blue tileset NOT the shakuras tileset? The second screenshot is a blatant psionic storm. There's minerals & vespene, etc. etc. I find this rip-off hilarious.

Just look at this blatant siege tank at the bottom, and the protoss scout but only with an extra pair of wings. rofl.

Is this an iPhone app? I ask because I saw this Asian guy playing a game that looked a lot like that and StarCraft: Brood War. I asked him what it was but all he said was, "It's an RTS. You wouldn't understand" although a bit more polite If he only knew . . .

Anyways, I think I might give that game a shot. Even the most shitty SCBW clone has to be at least good enough for an hour or two of enjoyment

-- Is that a Korean game? I remember hearing in some podcast about a SCBW clone that came out when SCBW was just getting popular in Korea. It took a little bit of the spotlight for a bit but SCBW (obviously) won out in the end And, yes, I already Google searched but all that showed up was some heavy metal band.

The iPhone game you're referring to, TychusFindlay, is Starfront: Collision.

Also, this is so old. :P
And those Intellion buildings would make some pretty good Xel'Naga structures for a SC1 mod.

Kudos to Arkceangel for the Terran avatar and sig!

    I think so yeah.

There is jack for info on this. I can't find where you'd buy this game. Can only find this flattering review:

Keith Pullin hoped for a StarCraft clone, but ended up sorely disappointed. Again...

As the years roll on and RTS games become more and more complex it's difficult to know how to approach something as simple and uncomplicated as Atrox. On one hand it's refreshing to find a game that's so easy to play. On the other hand you have to ask yourself: is there still room for such total dependence on basic resource collection and the almost retro concept of 'rush attacks'?

Atrox is strategy gaming at its most undeveloped. All three of the game's races (Hominian, Intelion and Createse) possess little proactive intelligence; to destroy anything you have to right-click a target before units even consider attacking. Even units wandering straight past an enemy will not fight unless specifically ordered to. And as mentioned, the only way to succeed, regardless of the species you play, is to build the biggest army you can (maximum 250 units) and then steamroller the enemy base.

Graphically the game is a throwback to the days of Starcraft with units so minuscule it's a job to tell them apart. The landscapes are about as exciting as a sheet of sandpaper and the base buildings look like they've been designed by the developer's receptionist during a lunch break in late 1999.

To its credit Atrox offers reasonable single and multiplayer options, though in reality it's nothing more than most RTS games already offer. Ultimately when compared with quality sci-fi RTS's such as Z: Steel Soldiers, Atrox is clearly lacking in every respect. You'll have more fun with a Xerox.

Looks quite boring and way too cloned

Also, since it's a SC1 clone, shouldn't it be on the Brood War Section?

    That's a 3D game.

The one I'm talking about was 2D al a SCBW engine. Looked something like a SCBW mod or like Atrox.

    Anyways, I'll probably never know

-- Wow, that reviews makes it sound like it should've taken SCBW's place. Seems like all of the problems I had with SCBW were corrected in Atrox.

I find this game quite interesting

    • Flying bunkers!
    • I spy Zerg alpha StarCraft 1 spires!
    • Zealots from the Robotics Facility must be OP
    • You must construct additional Pulse Centers

This ideas were so attractive I desided to watch some videos. I now want 5 minutes of my life back. Gradius' review is indeed a great summary of what Atrox is.
