Thread: SC2 and community

Number of TeamLiquid members > Number of SCL members

    Quality > Quantity imo.

That's about it. I'd rather participate on a forum in which I feel recognized for my contributions as well as understanding where each member is coming from as I consistently encounter the same dedicated, while comparably small, community. The members here tend to be, apart from you DB, very mature, educated adults. Not too many trolls compared to TL.

Also, I get to participate in discussions/conversations with the creators of this website, the authors of their articles, and the moderators of the various threads that define it on a frequent basis.

Plus, this forum tends to lack the elitist attitude that defines TL. People are willing to provide a helping hand to those that are new to Starcraft and Starcraft 2.... even those that lack knowledge of lore, map design, professional play, and campaign. It's like a forum for the accomplished as well as the noobs, but removing the negative middle people that tend to bash on noobs and/or misunderstand the established. That is not to say the middle players are not welcome, but not the ones previously described (for the most part).

And that makes Teamliquid better then ScLegacy memebers?
Your wrong because, Me >>>>> everyone rarwrawrarwaraw!
    :P

I think maybe we could "sponsor" - (push it up the list) or for example help debug/balance - test. We could in return have our site on their loading screen, and we help new coming maps which seem to have trouble to break the "wall".
Even though our community is good and helpful, what does it help if we doesn't help anyone?

Did you meant to say Members of SCLegacy > Members of Teamliquid? Because what you have described after that sentence doesn't make sense at all with that sentence. :/

I also don't like Teamliquid because of that Elitism.

i think he meant NUMBER of members. but thats a big bad mistake to make.
I am an enthusiast of good strategy games, sc2Esports and rollplay, although i dont really play anything atm.
I work an internship at a government agency this fall, and have a good time at it.
I'm being more social, active and honest lately. in all forums.

I've seen many new projects at SC:L die because of lack of interest. It usually starts with "wouldn't it be cool if", and then it gets done, but then hardly anyone dedicates time to it, so it gets shut down. This is usually because someone else on another site does it much better -- or simply in a more popular way. Each site that does what it does does it because it's become good at it after doing it for so long. Then there's that point where even if it's not good anymore it's still being done by them because that's who does it and that's what they do. A significant part of this is the nature of the StarCraft "thing" itself. It is such a strange franchise and such an old one as well. I can't tell you how many times I've talked to guys in their late 20s to mid 30s about it, only to hear them say, "Oh yeah, I remember that game when I was in school," or even worse, "I haven't played that game since I was a kid!"

    . . . sheesh, way to make a guy feel old as mess . . .

Anyway, there's no denying that SC:L is stuck in some sort of niche. There's lots of old blood here, and old blood is happy with the way things are. It's not that they'd be opposed to new things (i.e. elitism) -- it's just that they don't need them for themselves. New blood is needed to make new things happen, but at this point new blood won't come until those things have already happened. Everybody is where they want to be, and anyone else who's left looking for something is the kind of person who will go to where the goods are happening instead of making them happen where they go to. So really, if you think about it in that aspect, if SC:L or any other site stopped doing what it was doing to go do something else, that niche that it once filled would never be filled by anyone else. That is how old StarCraft is. You will most likely never see a new fan site rise, and you will most likely never see any existing site do anything other than what it is doing right now. Could you imagine SC:L doing what TL is doing or vice versa? Maybe 14 years ago, but certainly not at this point.

Damn, it's been a long time since I've posted something this big here, lol.

    EDIT:
BTW, seriously? We're still talking about TL and SC:L like they are against each other or somethin'? Jeez . . .

Yes I meant number of members. I thought that was obvious with the quality > quantity point, not to mention the whole wall of text afterwards that describes why I like SCL better. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

TBH they're both very different sites.

Team Liquid has a very heavy pro-scene multiplayer focus. It's the go-to place for strategy discussion. However, it isn't a community that cares at all about the lore or singleplayer. Custom maps aren't as highly regarded compared to other sites like SC2mapster. SCL is good for general SC2 news and tidbits. No one on TL.net will care about Kerrigan's new hairdo or when Blizzard hints at a new singleplayer character's name.

Personally, I think SCL has the best orderves and decor. The live band plays the perfect mix between smoothjazz and big band swing and the patio provides the best place I can think of to sit back and light up a stogie.

I'm not trying to make a SC:L>TL or TL>SC:L but:

IMO I feel SC:L as a forum with news and articles that require much thinking and calm. With that I mean everyone is welcome to participate and comment as long as they talk mature and it's good that way because anyone can do it. It feels like the slow-paced part of Starcraft (Singleplayer)

TL, on the other hand is way energetic, there's news, strats and much of the eSports and fast-paced part of Starcraft (Multiplayer). To participate you must prove to be a master at playing Starcraft, and that excludes many people to remain with the top tier.

I can't compare them because they are greatly different, and it doesn't have to be bad; on the contrary. I prefer SC:L and TL to remain as they are, and each fill the other's weaknesses.

But SCL has deviled eggs and carrot sticks with ranch.
