I hate not having had internet access, so here's a late post.
I think Raynor abandoned the protoss as he got drunk and bitter. Even in Resurrection IV, Artanis had to call Raynor to him. Furthermore, the protoss probably wanted to go to Shakuras to rebuild their people, and Shakuras is not a good place for terrans.
(In Twilight, we're told the only terrans the protoss had much contact with were Jim Raynor, Kerrigan, and Rosemary Dahl. The contact was so limited they assumed all female terrans were like Kerrigan. This didn't go over well when Dahl had to sweet talk them.)

I don't think Raynor abandoned the Protoss. If anything, they probably abandoned him after Fenix and most, if not all, of his group were killed when Kerrigan turned on them in True Colors. Remember, the remaining Protoss from Aiur were working together to rebuild their civilization on Shakuras, they didn't have the freedom to be wandering around the sector with Terran fugitives, the Protoss have more important things to do than take part in Terran matters.
Now does this mean we won't be seeing any Protoss allies during Raynor's campaign? Of course not. I don't know for sure, but I'm positive that Raynor will be getting some Protoss help sometime during the campaign.

At the same time, they are going to have to put Raynor against the protoss in some missions just for the sake of gameplay. I think in one of the missions they have released so far you have to kill protoss guarding some relics. I wonder how Raynor can keep up appearances with the protoss if he is battling other sects of them since the protoss need to stick together so badly now.

I suspect that the Protoss 'mini-campaign' is in fact a component of the main campaign in which Zeratul approaches Raynor asking for help in acquiring artifacts or such.
You still play as Raynor, but you have Protoss units under your control for a time.
I believe that it is mentioned somewhere that there are fringe sects of Protoss who have lost contact with, or openly shunned the Shakuran Protoss, and as such Raynor's actions might not reach them.
Though, I must say, if it does, that would make for interesting plot in Legacy of the Void. The Protoss are now distrusting of all Terrans.

First-hand experience trumps information derived from some cold data crystal. Moreover, many of the Protoss how interacted with Terrans have probably died, passing on only their impressions of terrans to other protoss via the Link. That's pretty silly, as the Protoss had studied the Terrans for a long time
The Raiders never had a Protoss component. Much of the time they tagged along with Tassadar, then rallied behind Fenix in the defense of Aiur, then followed in their escapades across the galaxy until Kerrigan killed Fenix.

But be wary through what thickets it winds.

I'm guessing it's a prologue campaign that leads up to the Kerrigan vs. Zeratul fight. Or it's something that happens after Zeratul leaves Raynor. It doesn't look like Zeratul brought any troops with him anyway.I suspect that the Protoss 'mini-campaign' is in fact a component of the main campaign in which Zeratul approaches Raynor asking for help in acquiring artifacts or such.

Well, we already seen that Raynor would take the opportunity to steal the relic while the Zerg are attacking the Protoss, and they're going to be attacked by giant stone Zealots, so they seem to had toned down the conflict between Raynor and the Protoss.
Maybe some faction of Protoss fanatics can attack Raynor for having a relic with him, or profanate a sacred Xel'Naga temple, etc. Or are attacking Terran worlds for some reason.
In the Terran part of SC vainilla, there are just a few fights against the Protoss.

Remember that Fenix's group remained on the Aiur side of the Warp Gate so they could shut it down. Being stuck there, they really didn't have any other option than to tag along with Raynor. Of course, it was really like they were tagging along with eachother, since neither of them really had any idea of what to do. Fortunately fighting the UED gave them something to do for awhile, instead of going insane.
But yeah, Fenix's group was completely wiped out in True Colors.
There's no hope of any of them returning — not even our beloved Fenix![]()
