    That's like COH. (Company of heroes)

    You get 1 account name which logins you into the system, from there you can choose any nickname etc... They go by level (1 being a noob - 15+ amazing) . If you have 1 very strong account where you're ranked 10+ you 'll never be matched with a lvl 1 even if you create a new nickname and your record is 0-0. Worked fairly well. I never had any real complaints.

    A few points to be made:

    First, in point that you shouldn't have to buy multiple accounts for people in the same family.. the battle.net FAQ has spoken enough for us to get our answer so far. This of course opens the door to try and understand how they will account for the "parent - single minor" identities. Perhaps related to swapping nicks, see next point. As always, this could change by Blizzard's nature.

    Q: My family plays World of Warcraft together. Should we create a single Battle.net account for all of our World of Warcraft accounts?
    A: No. Sharing access to a World of Warcraft account, other than by a parent or guardian with a single minor, is a violation of World of Warcraft’s Terms of Use. You should create a separate Battle.net account for each family member’s World of Warcraft account. In addition, future Battle.net features will make it beneficial for players to have the Battle.net account they use associated with their own online identity. Creating separate accounts for you and your family ensures you will be able to take advantage of these features when they are introduced later on.
    They have stated (I can't find source) that you will have the ability to change your VISIBLE name for sake of privacy. This may have changed to be the "others may change your visual name to understand you. This is hopefully a good blue question we might get answered.

    In terms of random people sending info, they said they'd put a hard focus into the privacy settings and this is one of the most standard. While I'm sure they haven't finalized their options for privacy, I would easily assume this would be part of their priority as we can't have Savior seeing "Jill.noob.#2" wants to be your friend in the middle of a competition.

    Why not just have a family member create their own Battle.net account and have them log into SC2 via that? Its free and I dont see them restricting you from playing.

    Maybe I'm not understanding the Real ID aspect. Is the Real ID being tied to the game itself or an extension to the user's Bnet account?

    The game itself. When you install the game and create a battle.net ID (or reference your existing one) you associate the CD key directly with the specific account. Now you can install this onto as many computers as you want (assumedly) but two games with the same key can not be on battle.net at the same time. This allows "Guest play" of the singleplayer campaign.

    How did they handle ranking the new accounts?

    What I mean is, if you have a lvl 15 account, then create a new account, and you play say a level 8 guy, does he lose a ton of points since you are 0-0 and ranked faaaaaaar below him in terms of actual ladder position?

    Or do you lose/win the same number of points regardless of ladder position (ie if #1 plays #250 it's the same as if he plays #2)? I guess that might work with ELL, and it would solve the only issue I've had with this idea (which I like).

    Hmmm.

    So if I went to my friends house to play Starcraft 2, and punched in my Battle.net info to play online, I'd be restricted from doing so due to the Real ID being tied to that game.

    Thats kind of dissapointing =/ Seems almost archaic if you ask me.

    I don't think you're understanding the difference between CD-Key and the actual software. All installations of Starcraft II will be identical, the CD-Key will be like a code that will enable StarCraft II on your battle.net account. The Battle.net account is not linked to the actual installed version of the game. Any battle.net account that has a valid StarCraft II CD key on it will be able to log into any StarCraft II client.

    The current ELL system, while it fixes smurfing "technically", is broken.

    It is sad that in wc3 now, a player's level means nothing. The true determiner of a players skill is their win %. This should always be a considering factor in regard to skill, but never the only one, especially if you have LEVELS that are suppose to infer skill.

    The problem is that with the current ELL is that players don't have to worry about losses. A person in wc3 could honestly be one of the worst players, but as long as they keep playing and winning matches here and there, they will level up. Eventually they could possibly be #1 on ladder. Trust me, seen in.

    We should assume the new matchmaking system will be good, and work how it should since we don't exactly know the details of it yet.

    The more I think about this one ID thing the happier it makes me.

    Less retarded backstabbers in RT now.
