The point is, what the hell is the reason we are settling for acceptable (and POSSIBLY very good, possibly not; this remains to be seen)?

No one here is saying "let's kill Tricia Helfer, she is pure evil." We all like her. She's doing an okay job from what we've seen so far. But why isn't Glynnis doing it?

    What point?

Yes, Jack Ritschel is dead. Therefore, no one is really complaining about the new actor.

However, Campbell is not. She is more than willing to do the voice, and we have yet to recieve a good reason as to why she is not.

You say we should be talking about balance or beta. However, that doesn't mean we can't talk about the voice actors, especially seeing as they were just confirmed, oh, three or four days ago.

But why isn't Glynnis doing it?
Metzen said that Kerrigan's journey is one of the great anchors of the StarCraft story. Someone suggested -- can't remember who -- that Kerrigan may be going through additional transormations, eg losing her emotions, so Glynnis's rich voice and inflection may not be quite right for her. Verily, Tricia's acting is more monotone by comparison. Either way, I'm quite happy with the decision, and look forward to more Caprica Six -- Tricia. I meant Tricia...

I downloaded and watched all the videos. I was very pleased, and really grew to like most of the cast. Clotworthy was a little taciturn though, but seemed pretty cool.

EDIT When Zeratul's new actor spoke, was I the only one who thought of The Antioch Chronicles' Moloch? Sounds do much like him.

I know there no outright bitterness, but there just not enough samples to go ahead and say whos the better Va. The original voices for SC weren't what every game should strive for (it doesn't have to set the bar). Maybe they think they can exceed that. You can't do that with the previous performance.

According to them its a new direction. It could be creative reasons, possibly a better actor (the voice isn't everything). If theres another motive, I cant possibly think of one (I doubt its a money thing). They gave her an audition, and there was something they didn't like about it, so she didn't get in. It wasn't like they didn't even give her a chance.

I didnt mean to tell you what to talk about, sorry for that.
My point was that you guys should try judging these actors without nostalgia taking over.

Ill just leave it at that. Feel free to continue discussing.

Well, the thing is, we already played this dance with Robert Clotworthy. They had him audition, liked a different actor for the "direction" they're taking, and have since reneged on the decision and brought Robert back into the fold.

So "Blizzard is making a mistake" remains a distinct possibility. I'm not criticizing them, I'm not saying that is exactly what's going on, just that we can't rule out that it is as simple as that.

An alternate explanation is that they were looking for a completely new cast (bar maybe Mengsk's return), signed on the new Raynor guy and Tricia away from prying eyes... but when the fan backlash was so strong, decided the fans were at least partially in the right. Maybe the guy actor isn't as well known, or they had another major role to offer him instead of Raynor (Valerian? Etc), but in Tricia's case, they might have felt uncomfortable turning her down, and it doesn't look like the campaign would offer them any room to juggle.

The politics behind something like that would make revealing the details in public awkward -- "Yeah, Glynnis, you didn't get the job because of a SNAFU, sorry 'bout that!" -- so maybe I won't be expecting any more on this story.

It's just a shame that we couldn't get both Glynnis and Tricia.

But instead they pick an attractive screen actor who's just broken out. It doesn't make sense to me unless its purely to add star power.
come on that's going a bit far. nobody who hasn't watched bsg is going to know who she is. it's not like people will say, "oh yeah that helfer chick she was in battlestar galactica that show i didn't watch." hardly star power

Recasting roles based on fan outcry. Nothing would make me lose my respect for Blizzard faster if this were true.

Everyone I know watched BSG. Most of them are gamers, many are also normal people I simply work with. Shes definitely famous enough.

Now, I can accept that they may have chosen her based on the other VG's shes voiced, namely C&C3 (irony anyone?) and Halo:ODST. That doesn't mean I think its right, though.

well the only other person i know who watches bsg is my brother so i guess we're even. incidentally she's very good in cnc3 (which had boomer in it as well amusingly)

edit: personally i think that number 6 can possibly give a better performance than the old actress in which case blizzard should not be a slave to continuity. i do feel sorry for the old actress however, but i think she has another career as a writer or something so it's hardly her meal ticket.
