    Default Blizzard replies to campaign criticism

    I'm not the biggest hater of the WoL campaign, but I know a lot of people here are, and so I thought you might be interesting in hearing that Blizzard listens:

    "Hello everyone, we wanted to stop in this thread and let you all know that the Blizzard writers are aware of your concerns and criticisms that are being aired here in the forums. Rest assured, they see all of it, and take all of it very seriously.

    On our end we disagree with some of the points made here, but do agree with others – we can and should do many things better. We are working very hard on that, and if Heart of the Swarm is an improvement on Wings of Liberty, a significant part of that will be due to the community's criticism. Please keep the great constructive feedback coming. We don't mind the honesty, but please keep it constructive and refrain from harassing or defamatory language aimed toward Blizzard employees or each other."

    Well, I kind of figured they were going through the criticism, because that's what writers (decent writers, at least) do.

    I also think that people should focus on the last sentence there. Nothing kills my interest in complaint-threads as fast as people insulting the writers personally. Unless Kevin J. Anderson is one of the writers, that's crossing the line.

    Could someone explain to me how you can explain bad writing and still keep face by saying we did things good but we could better.
    If they didn't realize crap writing then, than they won't realize it now.
    If you see that you do something wrong and you correct it during development process you do a good job, but if you see or don't want to see mistakes you've made and you don't correct them your work is worth my own made shit.

    The whole campaign is the worst thing that ever happened to gaming industry.
    I remember calling that they will de-infest kerrigan and raynor will make an alliance with her to beat off a bigger threat... look how that work'd out.

    (lol actually at BF I have even more proof of how the plot I made up from scratches and artworks is covering with the actuall plot in wol)

    If I can predict such stuff and write even better scripts for the campaign without having and degree or exp in writing stories than who the fuck works at blizzard!? Drunk monkey could do better.

    Odd-I thought the worst thing to happen in videogame history was the stock crash that came after Artari's release of ET.

    It's quite simple in terms of writing. Writers (at least dedicated ones) spend a considerable of time developing the story and are thus intimately familiar with the characters and their motivation, as well as what's going on. Consequently, it is easy to fail to realise that they aren't getting across the necessary pieces of exposition and/or in an interesting manner; since to them, it's something that they've taken for granted (a.k.a. an oversight). Sometimes, an outside view is needed to check these things. As a result, events and/or twists that they find really interesting wind up falling flat because we, the audience, have yet to form such strong attachment to the characters and aren't as invested in what's going on compared to the creators.

    As for your not liking the actual plot/sequence of events, that's very much subjective.

    I remember that, it's sad that most of good people there actually left both sites, which made people like Mattster to come in knocking...and I have no respect for them

    @mr.peasant
    i think i did, but it doesn't matter, most of the time writing such stuff i was drunk and because of the darwin theory calling myself a monkey is actually reasonable

    To be honest, the first starcraft had some dumb moments (drake clawfang pointed out a few, and tassadar's speech before he goes out in a blaze of glory was so wordy that I wound up giggling.) It's not that bad a story, many people are blinded by nostalgia. Sort of like how the Original Star wars trilogy is great, but has a few bits of silliness and the PT has some great elements but people focus on the crap.
