Thread: Tychus is working for Duran (speculation)

I've been wondering at the motivations of the Moebius Foundation, and think they may be associated with Duran or another behind-the-scenes extra-terrestrial backer. Moebius strips = infinity, anyone? The Xel'Naga cycle?...

I'm not sure whether Tychus works directly for Duran, but likely indirectly. Tychus apparently has an informant from Moebius, and in turn gives Raynor the info. Tychus and Jim may have been chosen due to their familiarity with the Protoss, perhaps making some of their quests to recover Artifacts easier.

I doubt, however, that Duran = Adun. It just seems too farfetched, and their motivations and personalities were radically different. Unless Duran is a manifestation of Aiur's psionic matrix and/or the Khala, which subsumed Adun's essence... and represents the total repressed subconscious desire of all Khalai to end the war at any cost necessary, released by the titanic explosion creating by Tassadar and the Overmind... I really don't see any connection. Although that would be an interesting concept.

Or is the shaping a culling and exercise in taming?

Doesn't Duran stand against what the Xel'Naga are trying to attempt? So then why would he be Adun? Unless someone can prove that Adun didn't like what the Xel'Naga were doing.

Yeah, Duran is taking the Protoss and Zerg and perverting them. Not only was Adun a warrior of his people, but a warrior and leader first and foremost.

But... I'm beginning to like this "Duran hails from the psionic matrix" idea. Farfetched, yes, but could embody a negative of the Khala too (like a photo negative), perhaps somehow bridging the gap between the Light and Dark psionics. Think a bastardization of the Twilight Messiah prophecy; a culmination of the Protoss' collective Impurity of Essence. *shrug* Aimless speculation and fanfiction at this point.

I've kinda had enough of these ridiculous secrets and twists, so personally I hope the Moebius foundation is just a regular old terran institution that's curious about the Xel'Naga artifacts. And if there is any sort of twist it's much more mundane and sensible than "DURAN IS RUNNING THE MOEBIUS FOUNDATION!!" or "IT'S FOUNDER IS A DISGUISES XEL'NAGA!!" or something like that.

Out there twists do not a good story make.

Something is weird here. Don't ghosts have the ability to read minds? If so Kerrigan should have been able to read duran's mind at will. Above that how would duran become infested or look so infested that it would trick even Kerrigan?

With the level of sophistication that his experimentation on the Hybrids requires, one would assume that he would be able to modify himself physically to trick Kerrigan if needed. Although one has to wonder why Kerrigan would be fooled if she didn't Infest him herself, she'd HAVE to suspect something... He could also have rendered himself immune to the Zerg Hyperevolutionary Virus' effects (or at least managed to neutralize them), let Kerrigan "Infest" him, and then just played along.

-However that does lead to the "could Duran change Kerrigan back" possibility.

I always thought that Kerrigan not reading Mengsk's mind was more a matter of respect (due to their very complicated past).

Heh, I guess I have to agree, Aldrius. I love twists, but to have Duran/Xel'Naga behind everything is kinda sad. Moreover, though the terrans are the weakest of the three races, they should be allowed to have some independently researched and created technologies and organizations.

Ehtan Stewart used a modified psi-screen to fool Jake Ramsey/Zamara, actually planting false thoughts for Ramsey to pick up. ("Logical" thoughts too, not "I would never harm Ramsey.")

Duran might just be a good enough telepath to pull it off.

I agree. I doubt the Moebius Foundation is a front for Duran. On the contrary, I think there's a far more obvious reason why they are interested in psi-related technology; the Moebius Foundation are probably the ones who created the Ghost's Moebius Reactor.

No, we don't know anything about him. But we do know plenty about Kerrigan, whom he managed to fool completely. We know that she's a super powerful telepath now that she's Zerg, that she has no compunctions against scanning his mind as she did Arcturus (because 1. No dampeners, and 2. She desperately wanted to believe Arcturus), and that she would have had to pay VERY close attention to Duran in order to attempt to infest him (and believe she had in fact succeeded).

Do you have any alternate explanations for how he managed to trick her?
