I can't believe both of you guys. Ultralisk is a pretty awesome unit and is used often.

I can't imagine zerg without the ultralisk, neither balance wise, neither gameplay wise.
Well to be honest, they do have some use against Terran. The problem is that the current map pool doesn't favor their use in any way because of all the choke points and the lack of open fields.

The lurkalisk? Novel suggestion, but would border on OP. A group of Ultras w/ the armor upgrade is every bit as hard to kill as a group of Thors or Colossi in similar numbers imo. Plus, because they're so late in the tech tree, scouting them is difficult when playing good Zergs. (I note this because the Bronze league has seen a sharp incline in the number of Overseers and spore colonies in use, especially to catch banshees and void harass. Most of us use a roving 3-5, but I've seen more, myself included increase to as many as 10-12 roving w/ 1 or 2 specifically for spell casting.)
There's always ways to balance. Maybe he wouldn't have as much armor when he's underground? Maybe he can only attack underground for a limited time? All kind of possibilities.

While it's possible to balance any unit theoretically, we have to give some concessions in map design to allow for strategic variety. Thus we must have some chokes. Given that Zerg have nydus and overlord drops, the new map pool is fairly balanced in the way of chokes, imho. That's not say there aren't a few that still have too many as there are that have too few. Shattered Temple, for example, now has too few. I understand opening the middle up, but widening the expo choke was wholly unnecessary w/ the new backdoor rocks.

you would have to find the lurker a new role in order to bring it back.

i got an idea. give the lurker a bit more range then a siege tank but make it so it can only attack units who stand on creep. it wouldn't burrow like in bw, but move like a colony. it could still be called a lurker, lurking behind the front-line. this would make the lurker a good push/defense unit without stepping on the baneling and roaches toes. as the creep spreads closer, the lurkers get closer. as they enemy kills your creep tumors to keep you contained, you'll get a few hits in as they stand on the creep.

i love the mothership and don't take me wrong when i say this, but it's the arbiters retarded cousin.

cloaking field isn't practical anymore, so what the point in cloaking anything.

if i could change it i would make the cloaking field radius bigger than just the size of the mothership, so you can line your cloaked army in front of the mothership to defend it. it was something you could do with arbiters to help keep them alive longer.

Generally, im so over the lurker discussion. i was happy to see it go, and i havnt been able to conceive of a place for it the way sc2. stands. i would take any bringback of the lurkerer as another sign of total creative bankruptcy.. they tried extensively to make this unit fit during alpha. its time to move on.

having said that, the lurker as a creep-atack-only is the coolest and most sensible lurker related idea ive ever heard.

I can agree. I don't want the lurker back just for the sake of it. I loved the unit but that doesn't mean it has a place.

The creep affecting a unit beyond only speed idea is GOLD. That would be an amazing mechanic. A unit that has two roles, one on creep and one off.

Agreed. Could that be coded into a mod using the existing map edi...

Alright, somebody with enough time and knowledge to do this, try it out.

Well i thought they planned to put lurkers in the campaign for HotS. But whether they'll be in multiplayer.......maybe. So why not just wait for HotS to see what they plan for the lurker. Or just post on battlenet forums pressuring blizzard to put the lurker as an additional unit in MP for HotS.
