I think he's just trying to avoid controversy, or avoid saying 'I like Tricia's performance better.'And yes, I'll wrap up my "bitching" soon enough but I just have to say I'm a little insulted watching Metzen on the stream completely disregard Glynnis' performance.
EDIT: Went back and checked the new Kerrigan video -- yeah, that's Tricia Helfer all right. Weird, didn't sound like her at first.
I like it more now knowing it's Tricia Helfer... does that make me a bad person?
Also I figured out where I know Neil Kaplan from (Digimon!! YAYYYY!!!)

Yes, yes it does.
I still stand by my view that her overemphasis of every single word is shite.
Oh and other people have brought it up, the whole Metzen talking about consistency bull. It also pissed me off that said in the interview after the voice cast panel that Tricia killed the audition in one take. It sounds like she walked in, Blizzard went "oooh Tricia Helfer" and then damned artistic integrity to the darkest depths of hell.
I wish I didn't care as much as I do about this. But its actually really pissing me off more and more.
I am glad they brought Mengsk back, his voice is frikken awesome.

The sad thing is that Metzen genuinely DOES care for the characters and story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrZ7ETUvzb8

Pardon...?Oh and other people have brought it up, the whole Metzen talking about consistency bull. It also pissed me off that said in the interview after the voice cast panel that Tricia killed the audition in one take. It sounds like she walked in, Blizzard went "oooh Tricia Helfer" and then damned artistic integrity to the darkest depths of hell.
What on earth is your basis for this?
Tricia Helfer isn't Cameron Diaz for god's sake. And it's not like she hasn't established herself as a good voice actress in the past.
Well it's not like I'm just going 'oh it's Tricia Helfer! That makes it GREAT!'. It's more like... before I didn't know what Karen Strassman was capable of. I've only heard her in two episodes of Code Geass. But Helfer I've heard quite a few times in a few different shows. And all the stuff I thought were lacking in those few lines of dialogue that I've heard from her, I KNOW she can bring in the future.Yes, yes it does.
So that's what changes things -- that I'm familiar with her voice. Not that it's HER voice.
I never got this before, and I don't get it now. Whatever you think you're hearing it's not overemphasis.I still stand by my view that her overemphasis of every single word is shite.
She draws out the words (like a snake with the 's', which plenty of actors do -- Tony Jay did it all the time), but that's not emphasis really.
Anyway, I think I still prefer Glynnis, but this is acceptable. I would be very okay with this. (I guess I'll have to be, they're not going to recast now.)
You know, this attitude that because they recast a part means they don't care about the storyline is completely bizarre... it just means they liked Tricia's take on Kerrigan better than Talken's.The sad thing is that Metzen genuinely DOES care for the characters and story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrZ7ETUvzb8
You evidently disagree (that the recasting wasn't worth it, or that Talken was better), but that doesn't mean that Blizzard doesn't care.
My only issue now is that Talken seems to have just been written off by Blizzard. I mean it's not as bad as it was with Clotworthy where they didn't even give him the chance to audition, but it's still... pretty bad. Like Metzen and Kaplan bothered to mention Rietschel but didn't offer Talken the same courteousy, and while Helfer sounds QUITE a bit like Talken, she didn't even mention trying to match the older performance even a little bit.
And yes, people will still be going 'is that Kerrigan...?' instead of 'oh my god, it's Kerrigan!' which is important too.

I couldn't agree with you more Raisk.
I know this is old news now, but I am definitely going to miss Glynnis Talken-Campbell as Kerrigan. I loved how she could play the evil part to the hilt, and then turn around and make some Valley Girl wisecracks that had me falling out of my chair with laughter. I know those great lines were from the script writers, but Glynnis pulled it off really well, and it's hard to imagine anyone else doing it better.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I understand events, Blizzard had approached Glynnis about reprising Kerrigan in SC2, then at the last minute dumped her in favor Tricia Helfer. Does anyone know the 'inside' story here?
To be fair, Helfer has built up a very impressive sci-fi resume over the last decade, and Raisk, like you said, given time she may grow on me. My fear though is that the Blizzard writers are going to have Helfer play it straight and evil, with no sense of humor. I hope I'm wrong about this.
I would say in the final analysis that Glynnis will be missed, and indeed this is the only thing that dampens my otherwise child-like excitement over the upcoming release of SC2.
Arcturus Mengsk: "I've had just about all I can take of you, Kerrigan!"
Admiral Dugale: "Kerrigan, prepare to meet your total destruction!"
Artanis: "Kerrigan, I have come to make you pay for your many crimes against my people!"
Kerrigan QoB: "When it rains it pours."

They brought her in for the temporary stuff. (All of the stuff she did was under the pretense of it being 'an audition' according to Talken. All the contracts she signed said that.) But they used her voice for the pre-release materials, such as when they originally unveiled the Kerrigan vs. Zeratul cinematic.Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I understand events, Blizzard had approached Glynnis about reprising Kerrigan in SC2, then at the last minute dumped her in favor Tricia Helfer. Does anyone know the 'inside' story here
Then they put the roles of Raynor and Kerrigan up for audition. People auditioned for the roles, and Tricia Helfer and Robert Clotworthy wound up with the parts.
