Thread: Removing single player out of the equation

Default Removing single player out of the equation

I wish they would put this in for the expansion - ability to remove single player once finished.

I had an SSD in my comp and a large amount of the SSD is taken by Starcraft II. Now I only play Multiplayer now and barely touch single, they need to have an option to be able to remove single player modules once you're done, something like a Spawn install.

I would imagine that by heart of the swarm or legacy of the void, SSD prices would've gone down a lot, but still, it would be nice if I could remove those single player experiences once I'm done with them (or at least shave off the embedded movies, cut scenes, dialogue and maps and keep the models)

Just buy another regular HDD. Use the SSD for the OS and install everything else to the regular HDD. SSD's are horrible for installing things to anyway(slow write speed)

They can't do it. The main game assets are for single player and multiplayer or in other words its one unified engine for both that shares resources and there is no way to just remove assets for one.

You can remove cinematics even now though and replace textures with smaller ones.

Install your games to a HDD. There really is no point in installing them on a SSD with the speed of HDDs these days.

Don't levels load uber-fast on an SSD?

Yep, Starcraft starts up almost instantaneously and things load almost instantaneously and there is little to no lag in game. With an HDD, the startup takes a bit longer, the levels take a bit longer and there is a 10-15 second in game here the framerate hovers around 30fps then shoots up to 120fps.

SSD OC Z of Crucial are very nice. They are good quality and top tier, faster than Raid 0 10k RPM. Like Dustin said, removing single player means removing the models (and editing the MPQ.)

Oh well i guess I'll wait till 256gb ssds are cheaper.

What's the point in super fast loading when you have to wait for other people to load before you can even start?

There are framerate improvements with an SSD. As well boot times and game loading. But, yeah, for multiplayer on map loading it doesn't help much.
