Yeah, i think that's something that *must* be done. However, people used to play with the expansion units would probably want to avoid playing with people that hasn't the expansion. Not the total solution to player group fragmentation, but would help a lot.

That would be a very nice thing to do for Blizzard, but they never did that before, and pretty sure they aren't going to do that now. If you get the expansion MP units, the benefit of buying it would diminish, and only be worth for single player. So, depending on the cost of the expansions, a lot of people could feel that it's a good idea to skip some/all of them.
