Actually maybe I was too harsh. They have outstanding attack strength and are a great overall unit ;p

I have to say that i prefer SC1 Protoss aesthetics. At least you can see they aren't all identical, and there are different tribes. The "cracked" texture looks better and more alien than the smooth one they're using now.

Personally, the aesthetics of the protoss to me aren't such a big deal, as long as they look like they had mouths surgically removed, I'm fine with it.
