There will never be LAN play!! Blizzard needs to control the eSports community by having all games on B.Net.
Blizzard spent a "Bazillion Dollars"* making this game and they will profit from it for many years after the launch through eSports.
* My Bazillion Dollar estimate includes the cost of B.Net.

read again. It's not requiring you to play the game, just to connect to an authentification server to install the game. After this, you can play offline forever. This is only for installation purpose, to counter piracy.
For people that say it won't change anything. It will, of course, they will crack it. But it will take maybe a month. By this time, alot of people will have bought the game.
Also, even if Steam is "crackable". It never work for a very long time and is not as popular as a normal standalone game is.
I think this is the best (and only) way to secure a bit a game these days.

Wait, isn't DRM that stupid, stupid thing they put into the Mass Effect installation...?
I'm... not for that. But oh well.
