Read it and while I'm happy for him, I can't believe Blizzard though he was making a new game outside of the editor

I know lol. That's pretty sad. I mean, this was obviously made through the editor and I don't see how anyone that has played sc2 could think otherwise. I guess those Blizzard representatives didn't know much about their own game... And I still don't see why they would force him to change the name. So what if you have the rights to the name world of starcraft? He's not cashing on it. If anything, he's making your own game more popular. I don't see Nintendo threatening the creators of the super smash bros madness or Raynor Party (which is obviously a take on mario party) UMS .

Well look from it at from this side, Dota became so popular it started to evolution it's own game. What would happen if World of Starcraft did the same thing? At least discussion has to be taken place.

Where did they confirm they thought he was making a game outside of the editor?
Regardless, in the business world, you never assume anything when dollars are on the line. That's actually in my textbook with different wording.
Rest In Peace, Old Friend.

From the link I posted earlier:
--The Deputy General Council from Blizzard contacted me last night to discuss the details of the "World of Starcraft" project. We talked for a while and apparently some people from Blizz were concerned I was developing the game somehow outside of SC2.
Technically, they now have the rights over any UMS that is produced according to the terms of use so it shouldn't be a problem. This is something that I don't recall being in place with WarCraft 3.Well look from it at from this side, Dota became so popular it started to evolution it's own game. What would happen if World of Starcraft did the same thing? At least discussion has to be taken place.

If the above was true, DOTA would be Blizzard's property
I'm thinking that Blizzard's goal of encougaring modding and mapmaking is all part of their plan for a new DOTA (in terms of popularity) to surge; this time it would produce for Blizzard and be property of Blizzard
