    Default Skynet meets the Swarm

A friend of mine just showed this to me, I thought it was one of the coolest thing I'd ever seen. A group of researchers at UC Berkeley used Brood War as a platform for Artificial Intelligence research, and created an AI that could beat professional players ala Deep Blue.

Pretty impressive, no doubt that, but I think this belongs to the Brood War section

Woa! I don't know if you readed the entire article, but the way they programmed this out is pure genius. The AI got the skill to make emerge high lvl zerg play and really challenge an IcCup A player!

WOW. Amazing AI and very interesting article.
If this AI can beat Jaedong or Flash I'd be pretty much in disbelief, though I guess that is still a long way out.

Once this has high level strategic planning, being able to control multiple unit types, using additional scouting methods along with making good unit compositions based on specific circumstances, I can definitely see this beating players like Flash and Jaedong. Of course, that'll probably take years to programme though :P

    AI is so damned interesting

Very good article. A very smart and adaptive way of programming the AI.
It's interesting to note that scouting was probably the most important factor of all.

Cool. I have a friend doing a Masters degree in Comp Sci and he had mentioned that such research was going on.

If these programmers enter enough variables into their StarCraft AI, it can be unbeatable. The speed of the computer to make quick decisions and changes to strategy immediately will trump most, if not all, pro-gamers. Although the APM won't be as high as with pro-gamers, who use it to keep their reaction-time high, it wouldn't be required for the AI since it will always act/react with split-second timing. It's kind of scary, knowing that if they succeed 100% with this AI, there would be an opponent out there that is unbeatable, with no handicaps and being given the same resources and potential to win as their human opponent.
