Your solution, Archy, is the best one available that keeps the general idea.
    Indeed...
+1(thumbs up) to what you said.

But for some reason, I've found a new passion for hating the Thor and its absolutely unrealistic nature. Oh well, no matter what happens the Thor is now permanently part of the SC universe whether it stays in the game or not... due to works such as Thundergod in the Frontline Volumes.

    In any case, I digress.
I think I'd be content with just spawning infested Terrans like the raise the dead ability in WC3, except no bodies required. I don't like the throwing egg animation.
spawning infested Terrans like the raise the dead ability in WC3, sounds cool...
Infestor "finds" some terran dead bodies and infests them bringing them back to life... so they can even keep the model and everything excepting just the throw egg anim...

As ArcherofAiur's idea, it's very cool, a way better than the current mechanic... the only problem would be (besides of a new model for infested terrans)... how would be it's attack?
both Archer's Pandonetho's and are viable solutions that I wish Blizzard heard and took into account.

All they really need is a mini-hydra, sort of like how the SC1 Broodling was a mini-ling. Just let them shoot some sort of spines or acid. That's pretty much the entire Zerg arsenal: claws, spines, spores, and acid.

Thats why the zerg infested terrans in the first place, to add psionic to their arsenal.

You'll never get rid of infested Terrans popping out of thin air without having them be completely useless. If the infested units were any good, they would only be possible in a ZvT matchup, and seeing that's only 33% of the match ups a Zerg player may encounter, having or not having the opportunity for an infested Terran unit would either disadvantage/advantage the Zerg player. If the unit is useless like the Infested Terrans from SC1, it makes no difference.

Assuming your referencing a Terran only ability, Balance may be an issue but I think its safe to say that all units will not appear in all match ups anyway. I think the issue with Infest being Terran only is that the player feels like they are missing part of thier army when playing against Z or P. So basically the entire issue is this

    1) Infesting the opponents forces only works on Terran (they are the only infestable race)

    2) An ability that only works on one race is not good for multiplayer (should be moved to single player)

    3) Therefore we cant have an ability that infests the opponents forces (other than nueral parasite)

    4) Having Infested units in a battle with no units that could have been infested requires a confusing explaination and defeats the purpose of a infestation mechanic in the first place.

The whole biological infested Terran makes much more sense than a gun wielding Terran popping out of an egg. But seriously, this is still the corniest spell in the entire game.

The issue being that they can't actually reproduce psi in other units, and it's very rare that they can even get most Infested Terrans up to a decent psi-level (Kerrigan was already damned powerful beforehand). Besides Kerrigan is far less likely to spend time on it than the old Overmind would have been, so it's more-or-less ditto anyway.

What are you basing all of that on?

No I mean it would make the game unbalanced if Zerg could only infest Terrans and the resulting unit was in some way effective/important. If this was the case, then it shouldn't be in multiplayer because Zerg would either have a greater advantage vs Terran or greater disadvantage vs Protoss.

Infested Terrans in SC1 were alright in the sense that you'd rarely see them. They added great to the story though and I'd like to see all sorts of crazy combinations of infested Terrans, even Protoss, in SC2, but only in the singleplayer/custom maps.

Looking forward to learning about the hybrid race, however.

In SC:BW you see some units in certain matchups that arnt used in other match ups. Just because a unit isnt used in a certain matchup doesnt mean that the race is disadvantaged.
