Short Story: In a Grain of Sand

I was browsing the Writing Prompts subreddit the other day when I ran across this:

The Sol system was an experiment by aliens to determine if life would evolve under hyper hostile physics....

Re: Reboot the franchise? What direction would you go?

*shrug* As I understand it, foreign content has to pass certain criteria that native content doesn't. NetEase, Blizzard's partner in Diablo Immortal, has produced games with bones and skeletons....

And let's not forget the Diablo imagery itself will be heavily censored and watered-down for the Chinese market. I think the only reason as much of it...
  4. Re: 3D version of the unit reference pictures

I agree with Robear's progression of Protoss facial characteristics. On the left are neotenous features -- characteristics seen in children, juveniles, and women. Characteristics to the right are...
  5. Re: 3D version of the unit reference pictures

Misla, this was my interpretation of a protoss skull from several years ago. The cranial structure was actually inspired by dolphins.

Sticky: Re: StarCraft II Artwork Thread

Damn that's beautiful work she did. How exactly did she "project" the portraits onto the models?
  7. Re: What are good reasons for the zerg to not use technology?

It's probably a matter of interface/compatibility, and availability. The few instances we have of Zerg using terran or protoss technology are by Kerrigan, Infested terrans, Duran and Abathur, all...
  8. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

I have. Kyubey did nothing wrong.
  9. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

Subversion for subversion’s sake, narrative be damned. Okay, Rian Johnson.
  10. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

The only new hybrid concept for LotV was the airborne Nemesis. Amon's form is a modified Reaver, and Dominators are simply Destroyers with widgets.
  11. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

Wait a minute, what? So what you're saying is Blizzard considered improving the Hybrid design leading up to LotV, had their artists crank out fantastic concepts, then went "Naww, let's roll with what...
  12. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

I'd say the queen. I don't think they expanded on the hybrid concepts until after the main three were cemented.
  13. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

To get things back on track: Anthony Jones was an illustrator hired on by Blizzard several years ago and contributed concept art for the Protoss-Zerg Hybrids. He published his sketches on ArtStation...

    Re: Are Dragoons "Realistic?"

Welllll... given that Kerrigan, in her victory, sensed a growing darkness over the horizon...

    Yeah, Blizzard wanted that sequel.
  15. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

Speaking of Amon, exactly how was he resurrected by Duran? If Xel'Naga are thrust back into the Void, then hasn't he just been chilling for several millennia since Zerus? Or was dead in the Void too,...
  16. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

Eh, I thought they could have been Hybrids corrupted by the Void and sent back into realspace. Of course, if it's so easy for Amon to create portals between here and there, then what was stopping him...
  17. Re: What other ways could the xel'naga been drawn like?

I'm not terribly disappointed by the Xel'Naga design that we got, but the Hybrids seemed to be lacking in creativity. You can't tell me, from the "thousands" (Metzen's own words) of iterations and...

    Re: Are Dragoons "Realistic?"

I mean, it definitely seems like you have narrative ideas for the universe. You could share your ideas for something like a parallel universe in which your story takes place, like Alternity. I...

    Re: Are Dragoons "Realistic?"

Immersing one's self in the khala may fulfill the same physiological needs as sleep. Maybe the meditative practice helps clear away adenosine, a natural byproduct of the brain's metabolism.

    Re: Are Dragoons "Realistic?"

Kinda wondering why Misla is a "fan" of Starcraft at all.

I feel like he wants a backdrop for his own fiction -- which isn't a bad thing. A genocidal judicator? What's this about?

    Re: Are Dragoons "Realistic?"

... Mm, yeah, I'm gonna be That Guy for a minute.

I lost my family when I was younger -- mom, dad, aunts and uncles and cousins. The whole shebang.

    Do I want a replication of them? I can't...

    Re: Are Dragoons "Realistic?"

Keep in mind the Judicators' treatment of protoss from other castes; Aldaris looked down upon and scoffed at Tassadar and Fenix. He even treated Fenix' apparent death at Antioch as little more than a...

    Re: Are Dragoons "Realistic?"

I find it incredible the protoss don't have some form of high-precision long ranged option for surgical strikes. As much as the Elite's honor bound culture influenced the Covenant military, their...
