Concerning the Expansions
Blizzard has been very open with the development of Wings of Liberty. They have shown videos, had playable Alphas at a variety of events, and new images surface on an almost weekly basis.
However, is this going to be repeated with Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void going to be treated the same way? It, in my opinion, seems doubtful. There would be little point, as all that is really being added is the campaign and a couple of multiplayer units.
So, while it is likely that they will have open Betas, does it seem to you that there would be little reason to have the same level of openness they have with Wings of Liberty as they will with the expansions?
Re: Concerning the Expansions
Well, like you said, there would be very little to be open about.
Although, I have a feeling that we will still get more info than we normally do.
Re: Concerning the Expansions
I think at the upcoming Blizzcon they will be revealing more information about the Wings of Liberty single-player and I would assume we're going to see some screenshots of both the Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void single-player campaigns before release. Just to build the hype up that little bit. Dunno if we'll know about the new units before the expansions come out though, but I do hope so.
SCII is going to be a staple at all the upcoming Blizzard events, so if they've introduced new units in HotS and LotV they'll probably be available at said events. I can't say for sure though, as I've yet to attend a single Blizzard event, but one day!

No chance.
Re: Concerning the Expansions
The infomation we get from blizzard only feels really slow and so little. cause we are in such a suspence for the beta. Once we have a game to play whine and laughed about. infomation once every month or every blizzcon wont seem to long in between.
imo ofc :)
Re: Concerning the Expansions
I believe they will release information without a doubt. It will be NOTHING like the plethora we get now. Over the course of a year, I would guess at:
- A website obviously, this would be upkept significantly better than the current one is. (Due to a smaller and more managable scope of information to provide)
- At least 1-2 segments of Blizzcast about it. This is over the course of a year and I feel they'll do Blizzcasts again without the looming Blizzcon over the horizon
- They will reveal the considered expansion units (Or ideas) and have screenshots to illustrate it. This would be done on the website.
- Some sort of explanation of basic story preview which would be on the website
- Basic media involvement as it's been so far, using them to create the majority of the hype.
The reason this is all important is simple... they are providing this as an eSport and not just a game. For that reason alone they have to provide open information for a stable future on the game.
Re: Concerning the Expansions
Agreed, I doubt you'll get much. But we should get basic info (but we already do)
The reason why we're getting a ton of media is to hype the idea of Starcraft 2, if we get some info on the terran campaigns its just to complement the bigger picture.
Re: Concerning the Expansions
I agree with Gifted. In my opinion, probably the biggest thing they would announce concerning the expansions other than new units/whatever, would be updates to Battle.net 2.0 (or it may be 2.1 or 2.2 by then)
Re: Concerning the Expansions
I probably wouldn't even care. I'd much rather play StarCraft 2 than lurk forums for information on a game that I'll have no effect on.

Duh, for me it doesn't look like an expansion. Like the shop update its infrastructure, not the product itself.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for an open beta on the expansions. If they're adding a couple units total then that won't be too much of a challenge to balance. Maybe I am wrong though... Regardless I think WoL will be holding my interest for quite some time.
Re: Concerning the Expansions
I expect a closed, then open beta for HotS and LotV because the new units will probably require some serious balancing. Look at how the medic, corsair, DT and lurker affected SC...
However, the wait won't be as painful since we'll be busy following up on patching, Bnet2.0 new features and stuff like that. I expect the first year will be very dynamic :p
Re: Concerning the Expansions
Was just looking at the old Brood Lord model:

and it would be amazing if they included it in one of the expansions as a Zerg capital ship. It just looks so menacing.
Re: Concerning the Expansions
I think they'll have new gameplay mechanics and battle.net game modes and other bnet stuff that they can show off.
I don't really follow WoW, but I know that, in addition to new quests and classes, they also opened up things like Phasing and the Caverns of Time.
