Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
Looks like that leaked Blizzard schedule was infact legit.
During an interview with Frank Pearce, Destructoid managed to squeeze out a highly sought answer. Frank Pearce confirmed the Next-Gen MMO currently developed by Blizzard Entertainment is codenamed “Titan”.
The Executive Vice President of Product Development and Cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment admits, now that the cat’s out of the bag, they want the best developers out there to know about this upcoming Next-Gen MMO and to apply for a job with Blizzard.
The media is not supposed to know anything about “Titan”. It’s our next-gen MMO, and we’ve only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we wanted to leverage the fact that we’re working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting, getting some of the best talent in the industry on that project.” — said Frank Pearce.

Not directly related to Starcraft so I'll move this to off-topic.

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
Well, on one hand I'm glad at least part of the leaked schedule is legit. I for still attach the "subject to change" notation.
On the other hand, I'm not an MMO type, at least so far as MMOrpg would be concerned. Still, if it is, as the schedule implies, totally new Blizz IP, it's worth watching. :)
@Sandwich: Not entirely SC related no, but one could argue given the new legitimacy of the leajed schedule through this, that the schedule notes on SC progress are at least in the expected order, if not in final timeframe. :)
Edit: I wrote "Woo-hoo first post!", but Sandwich narrowly beat me. :)

Meh, we knew Diablo would have at least two expansion packs long before this leak. And it does indeed seem more like a leak right now.

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
Don't take the codename Titan as anything other than a codename. StarCraft II was codnamed Medusa I believe and Diablo III was codenamed Hydra. Could have been the other way around though.

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
Medusa = Kerrigan
Hydra = 3 Headed Diablo? (Baal & Mephisto Heads On Diablo)
Titan = ???

No, no, no, Hydra has seven heads. Cut one off, and it grows another.
Cut off enough, and conceivably, it would fall over from being so top heavy. At that point, you can stake it to the ground and use it as an endless source of tasty meat to cure World Hunger or launch a new super-chain to kick Mickey D's out of its throne.
Titans... 50-armed giants who are gifted in the fields of crafting and metalworking.

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
Isn't Titan old news?
Quote:
Blizzard first announced in 2007 it was developing another MMO title that was unrelated to the World of Warcraft franchise. It's unclear at this time if 'Titan" is the final name of the game or if it's simply a working title. IGN reached out to Blizzard Entertainment for clarification on Pearce's comments.
"We've previously announced that Blizzard Entertainment is working on a next-generation MMO game," a Blizzard spokesperson stated.

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
I'm pretty sure the name "Titan" has come up before, but to my knowledge, the news in question is the first explicit confirmation of it. The codename however, probably has little root in its mythological connections. From what we know about the MMO, it's more along the lines of sci-fi and made to appeal to a broader audience-possibly an FPS. I don't see Polthyrean and co. featuring into that.

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
An FPS kind of MMORPG would be interesting and something that to me, would not be out of the realm of possibility for Blizz.
When WoW was in development, there were a lot of questions about whether or not Blizzard could make a great MMORPG - that was new for them, and it obviously succeeded tremendously.
If Blizzard were to do an FPS game, I don't doubt that they'll find SOME way to change the mechanics we've come to take for granted and doing so in an interesting way.
Anyway, I keep getting my hopes up that they'll announce something Titan-related at each Blizzcon, but they never do :p. Next Blizzcon FOR SURE, though, right? :p
Unless they're going to use Blizzcon2011 to announce whatever WoW expansion's coming AFTER Cataclysm! I'm still amazed that they've already said that they're working on another expo for WoW - it just keeps going!

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
SC2 phoenix is probably just StarCraft Ghost but completely redone for PS3/XBOX360/PC.
Uh I doubt their new MMO is anything "Ground breaking".
Keeping my explanation short, ACTIVISION BLIZZARD's revenue is 40% from WoW. They need to make a new money cow since WoW is aging (Think of 2015, not right now) .
Plus they have never been ones to really "Push the envelope", sure they go for AAA quality - but they definitely don't bother trying to reinvent the wheel. WoW is a great example, took all the nice things from every MMO and made it mainstream friendly.

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
I doubt that Phoenix is a remake of Ghost as not only is the concept of a phoenix (the bird) about as far away from a psionic assasin as possible, but Ghost has already been converted/novelized into Spectres, so to speak. An entirely new story would have to be created and I don't see there being enough time for that for the creative department to work on so many projects at once.
Still, I also doubt it's a remake of the original game-doesn't seem worth it. If anything, I suspect it's the equivalent of console DLC.

Well Phoenix is a metaphorical device from my interpretation... Since Ghost sort of "died" like a phoenix and will be reborn as a XBOX360/PS3 game.
That's how I see it.
You should take note that Blizzard bought out Swinging Apes Studio , which is a purely console related development house. I mean yah programming is programming but they technically have a small but capable team of console developers inside Blizzard now. Plus Console games is grassroots for Blizzard. It'd be nice to play a StarCraft console game, the idea of being a ghost is pretty tempting. But I'm an espionage junkie (Metal Gear, Tom Clancy, etc) soo haha :D

Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
I hope that's what it is. I wanted to play Ghost since it debuted.

If so, it just shows Blizzard can't learn lessons. The PS3/Xbox 360 aren't that new. Given how long Blizzard takes to make games, it'd just get canned again, and for the same reasons. (At least the PC is infinitely upgradeable.)
-
Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
Since it's listed for a 2011 release, I don't think the progression of technology is so much an issue. That also makes it seem more unlikely to be Ghost IMO-if it were, we'd almost certainly have an announcement before the year of its release. Something akin to DLC seems more likely, as it's less significant and therefore not worthy of announcement back in 2010.
-
Re: Frank Pearce Confirms Blizzard’s Next-Gen MMO Codenamed Titan
Whatever it ends up being, if it involves a subscription fee like I'm sure it will, then I won't be playing it. Besides, between SC2 and Diablo 3 I should have all the games I'll be needing for quite some time.
Never was a fan of MMORPG's anyways.

Indeed. They should have just released the game for the PC. Although now that they're merged with the scum that is Activision, presumably they have more developers to bring their idea to consoles.

Query... isn't this the company known to be even worse with deadlines than I am?
Don't know whether they would announce it before now or after if it was Ghost, but I can't help but wonder...
Kotick? Is that his name? Didn't he mention the possibility of using cutscene material to tell stories outside of games, create new movies, and generate ca$h?
How much of an ahead do you think we'd get for a StarCraft mini-movie?
