Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Based on your current knowledge of the game, which units are your favorite and lease favorite for each race?
For me it's...
Protoss
Fave: I love the idea of a mobile pylon, and the notion of being able to instantly deploy an army anywhere on the map with warp-in. This is the unit I'm most looking forward to use.
Least Fave: Not too impressed with the Mothership and the abilities its been given. As the pinnacle ship in the Protoss army it should have more clever abilities than its current ones.
Terran
Fave: Tough to choose between the Hellion or Viking. I like the speed of the Hellian, and its linear AOE attack can make for some clever maneuvering. The versatility of the Viking also appeals to me. Both are accessible with a reactor, so I suspect both will be spammed heavily when playing as Terran.
Lease Fave: Easily the Thor, and this unit could very well be my least favorite of the entire game. It's unimpressive visually and sounds boring as hell. Although that new ability could have potential depending on what it ends up being. Glad they got rid of mechanical rebirth...that was just lame.
Zerg
Fave: The baneling is probably the unit I'm most excited to use in the new Zerg army. Sapper units are exciting to me, and I relish at the prospect of burrowing or dropping these for maximum effectiveness. They'll be a blast to ambush from behind bushes too.
Least Fave: Infestor. Love the fact that it can move underground, but its abilities are shaping up to be pretty lame and redundant. They could do so much more with this unit.

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss
Favorite: For me the protoss have a whole of very decent units and ideas so it's hard to choose. I will go with Stalker just because I really love blink.
Least Favorite: Can I choose Dark Pylon? If not then... Carrier maybe.
Terran
Favorite: Reaper. I love the D8 charges and the cliff jumping. Just love it.
Least Favorite: Thor. Find this unit very uninteresting, I don't see how it makes the gameplay any better and it feeds peoples' need for huge epic units which doesn't suit SC that well. It overlaps with other units and doesn't have a decent role.
Zerg
Favorite: A hard choice between Zergling, Baneling, and Roach all three of which I think are awesome. I will choose Roach because it's such a unique and cool idea. Oh man I also love Ultralisks too...
Least Favorite: Infested Terrans, if they are in the state they were in for BR2, if that has been changed then I choose Changeling because I think it's silly and won't be that useful.

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran:
Favourite: Raven / Reapers
Dislike: Thor
Protoss:
Favourite: Immortal
Dislike: Nothing really, maybe Mothership a little bit.
Zerg:
Favourite: Zergling
Dislike: Changeling
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss:
Favorite- Stalkers. The blink will make things very interesting.
Least Favorite- Not 100% sure yet. I am a zerg player.
Terran:
Favorite- Raven. The turrets and HSM look very interesting. Very cool detection unit.
Least Favorite- Hellion. Im just not sure about this one, but it could turn out cool.
Zerg:
Favorite- Really hard to choose. I like playing zerg, and the idea of zerg in sc2, because all of the units are cool. Im looking forward to the queen and the infestor. The infestor looks pretty powerful to me even though I hear a lot of the opposite in forums.
Least Favorite- Changling. Im just not sure how useful it will be.

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss:
Favorite - Stalkers & Immortals!
Least - Carriers & Mothership...
Terran:
Favorite - Reapers & Marauders!
Least - Mules...
Zerg:
Favorite - Roaches & Corruptors!
Least - None...
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss:
Favorite: Dark Templar - death hides in shadows
Least: Collosus - it's too expensive, vulnerable, slow and clumsy
Terran:
Favorite: Battlecruiser - the new abilities will certainly diversify destruction from above
Least: Viking - losing the Goliath is a huge blow to the anti-air ability of the Terrans, and the airmode of the Viking won't make up for that
Zerg:
Favorite: Roach - this one's going to harrass players out of their wits
Least: Changeling - I can't find much use to this either then the first 1-2 times I use it to have a laugh
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss:
Fav:- Zealots
Least Fav:- Mothership
Terran:
Fav:- Thors & Reapers
Least Fav:- Vikings
Zerg:
Fav:- Ultralisk
Least Fav:- Brood Lord & Changeling

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
I'm just stating my favourites and least favourites of the new units only
Terrans:
Fav: Viking
Least Fav: Hellion (I feel that its attack style steals too much thunder from the Lurker. People call it a firebat on wheels, but 'mini-lurker on wheels' seems more accurate.)
Protoss:
Fav: Stalker - whether or not it's overpowered at the moment, it is undeniably a very intriguing unit that's destined for some epic plays :).
Least Fav: None at the moment o_0
Zerg:
Fav: Roach! I love this little guy! I just love ability-less Zerg units like Hydras, Zerglings and Ultralisks in BroodWar (kinda disappointed that Zerglings gained a non-burrow ability in SC2 :P). The micro depth comes from his unique regenerative properties. Just a brilliant example of incredibly elegant unit design.
Least Favourite: Overseer. I'd like it if they'd move detection back to Overlords and forget about Overseers entirely. Part of what made the Zerg in BW so unique was their method of detection. Saying that Zerg were 'detectorific' in BW is like saying that Terrans were 'firepowerific', but racial traits should be played up in SC2 to make the races more unique, not made more standardised across the three factions. It's not as if Zerg never had detection problems in BW. By requiring such a specialised (gas-costing, ugh) unit to detect invisible units out in the field, I can't help but feel that it cheapens the Zerg's uniqueness. I also feel that 'basic' units shouldn't always be morphing into bigger ones. It's ok when used on just a couple of units, but having morphs for Zerglings, Overlords, Mutalisks, and Hydralisks feels a bit too much.)

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran
Favorite: Thor. Yes, I know it's not the uber killing machine that it appears to be but all of that will be changed with balancing. I just love the idea of the unit so I'm willing to bear with it :D
Least Favorite: Raven. Damn that name to hell! I was just starting to like Nighthawk, too! This is probably my most favorite "least favorite" as I still like the unit but I don't like the name .. not much of a reason, I know, but I was desperate for something to put here.
Protoss
Favorite: Stalkers. It takes something that I enjoyed from StarCraft (Early Dragoon micro) and takes it to the next level.
Least Favorite: Disrupter. There's nothing I hate about the unit itself but the model looks too much like a Trilobyte
Zerg
Favorite: Roaches :D:D:D:D
Least Favorite: Brood Lord. At the moment, I'm not really liking it but I'm sure it'll be changed for the better. At that point, I'll dislike the Changeling and Infested Terrans the most. Granted, the Infested Terrans aren't really a unit since they're a spell / ability but they seem pretty useless.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
For StarCraft II units, in general (not anything specific, art-wise, stat-wise):
Terran:
:) Banshee
:o Reaper Edit:Changed from Thor to Reaper
Zerg:
:) Roach
:o Lurker
Protoss:
:) Stalker
:o Pheonix Edit:Changed from Mothership to Pheonix
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss
Most: Immortals - the idea of updated dragoons actually supported by lore is just amazing.
Least: Mothership - they've messed with it too much and now it's the least exciting unit
Terran
Most: Viking - the mobility and flexibility it provides makes it the strongest unit out there. Terrans need something this flexible. Or the Battlecruiser, for obvious reasons.
Least: Not sure, either the Reaper or the Medivac DS
Zerg
Most: Queen - so happy it's finally a useful unit!
Least: Infestor, only because I haven't seen it in action yet and I'm not too sure it's going to add anything new.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss
+: Nullifier (or is it Disruptor now?)
-: Carrier
Terran
+: Reaper
-: Thor or Hellion
Zerg
+: Baneling
-: Roach
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss
Most: Void Ray - awesome looking unit, with an awesome attack concept; simple, yet effective.
Least: Phoenix - feels like a bad Corsair knock-off, with a tacked on ability that came made it's way here because the other units didn't want it. Carrier is a close second.
Terran
Most: Viking - Versatile unit that I feel has a lot going for it. Air unit that can avoid anti-air? Yes please!
Least: Thor - feels like another lost unit that they only want to keep in because of how much hype they built up for it.
Zerg
Most: Baneling - Speed upgradable bags of acid? Can be used as ambush mines? This unit is just full of awesome.
Least: Lurker, a little - It's just the same ol' unit it was before, and it doesn't even look cool anymore.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss
Like: Stalker - 'Blink' micro is going to be epic; I cant wait to use it!
No Like: Carrier - It's just uninteresting - There was talk about being able to choose between Interceptor, 'types' - What happened to that?
Terran
Like: Reaper - D8's baby!
No Like: Can't say the Thor, cuz we really haven't seen it in action. I'll just say I'm concerned over the Thor's future....?
Zerg
Like: Going to be a toss-up between Baneling and Corruptor.
No Like: Infestor. Have yet to see the new design, but the 'Infested Marine' mechanic has to GO! - so ridiculous!
-

Hm wait i dont get it? Lurkers arent same...they are now siege units with 9 range and 15+15 vs Armored dmg, if you are talking about same units, look at Hydras, Mutas and Lings....That units are the same....

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran
Favorite: Banshees. At last, a good massable AtG option.
Least Favorite: Very hard to say. Generally I like the units, but some have lame abilities. The Viking might be the loser here, since it's GtG attack seems so weak.
Protoss
Favorite: Phase prism. Warp-in. That is all.
Least Favorite: Phoenix. It lost it's awesome ability and picked up something that isn't as cool as Disruption Web. I think it's made of ail.
Zerg Banelings. Their ambushes are so terrifying, and because they're so weak, it takes skill to use them. It was fun watching the terran player in BR 2 defuse their threat; sometimes he made them blow up on low-cost targets, other times the zerg player micro'd them to the terran weak point.
Least Favorite: Brood lord. Guardians were high enough tier, now we have something with a lame name that has loads of hp and therefore costs more without any corresponding increase in damage.

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
TOSS
Fav: DT ---> omg 2 models!
GAY:Nullifier ---> lol looks like a flying fish skeleton
ZERG
Fav: Ultralisk ---> Good old ultra now looks even more badass
GAY: Roach ---> Looks kinda cool but kinda op + zerg already got enough gtg units.
TERRAN
Fav: Viking ---> Model could look better but transformers are cool.
GAY: Marauder ---> is an ugly piece of walking bulky diarrhea shit. I wasn't a fan of bats but this is just terrible. They need to remodel him.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran:
Favorite: Banshee - cloaked death from above
Least: (none)
Zerg:
Favorite: Swarm Guardian - old guardian type attack + broodlings = very yes
Least: Infestor - lots of potential, but still needs work
Protoss:
Favorite: Void Ray - death from above for large ground units and buildings
Least: Mothership - lots of potential, but still needs work
Update: fell behind with my updates, and didn't realize the swarm guardian was replaced by the brood lord... well, it's still my fave.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
TERRAN
Fav: Banshee - Always loved the design of it. It's just so perfect. AMAZING
Least: Thor - Too many issues. Don't add a unit cause you think it would look cool
PROTOSS
Fav: Colossus - The design is sweet and ever since its attack increase it's really found a special place in my heart.. even if it is the bane of my zerg
Least: Mothership - Never been happy with the unit or it's abilities
ZERG
Fav: Swarm Guardian / Brood Lord - I am in love with this unit. New design change kind of broke my heart though.
Least: Lurker - New design please
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran
The Good: Gameplay: Marauders. +Concept: Banshee.
The Bad: Viking. Ground form = useless.
The Ugly: Raven, because he still has HSM and still does not have spider mines!
Protoss
The Good: Gameplay: Stalker. +Concept: Immortal.
The Bad: Phoenix. Unfun all around.
The Ugly: Mothership & Carrier. What are you doing, Blizz? Might as well replace the Phoenix with the Corsair.
Zerg
The Good: Gameplay: Roach. +Concept: Overseer.
The Bad: Lurker. Maybe just because I haven't heard enough about him.
The Ugly: Infestor. Swarm Lord. I mean, Brood Guardian. We liked the original just fine, Blizz. Way to break something that was working.

Terran: Favorite would have to be the Banshee, least favorite would be hellion currently
Protoss: Fav is stalker, least is probably the immortal (damn tank counter!)
Zerg: Fav is broodlord, least is queen

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss:
Fav: I want to say the colossus or stalker, I wont be able to tell until I play em.
Least: I would say the Protoss air force as a whole is unimpressive at the moment. Probably the Carrier if it doesnt change, visually or gameplay.
Terran:
Fav: Ravens look badass. The Banshee is a close second.
Least: The hellion (look wise).
Zerg:
Fav: If they can come up with a good ability for the new infestor, that could be my new favorite. Right now I like the baneling.
Least: Lurker, I just dont think it belongs in SC2. The Hydralisk needs something else.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Honestly I'm just so excited to play the game I can't say I'm disappointed in any unit. The Thor and Mothership have issues a bit. I think someone pointed out that they are so high up on the tree that to balance them out is extremely problematic (because they should be quite powerful).
I haven't seen the new Brood Lord (is that what the Muta's morph into now)?
Favs-
Terran: Not completely sure this is the right name but I think Hellion? Its the one that looks kind of mech'ish and shoots missles (not the one that transforms into the air unit). I also really like the Banshees.
Zerg: Roachs. I don't know why but they just seem so awesome and their design is sooooo simple!
Protoss: Stalkers are super kewl but I think my vote goes to the Colossus. They look amazing.

Hellion is Vulture with flamethrower :) the one you are talking about is Marauder, and yeah Brood Lord is mutation for Mutalisk

Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss
-------
:) Blink... i say... Stalker :)
 Mothership: it's support spells and attack are kinda weak for it's cost and tech position. Make this a worthy unit. I'm ok with support-only spells, but give the damn unit spells that really make a difference, and give it a powerfull attack. It's the damn Mothership, for God's sake!!!
Terran
------
:) Banshee. This unit will be the pain in the ass of any enemy.
 Thor. Giving a unit 1km anti-air range just to compensate for it's uselessness was already done with the Goliath. Was it a fun unit? I don't think so.
Zerg
----
:) Roach. The model sucks big time, but the regeneration mechanic coupled with micro and Burrow will warrantee lots of fun.
What's the status of the Nydus Worm? It was fun to use the tunnels. Is it still in, at least late game?
:( I don't know. There are so many returning Zerg units, and so many of them with nearly unknown status, that it's difficult to say what's the worse unit. From the Infestor, the only interesting abilities are Neural Parasite, and move while Burrowed. The Hydralisk is trying to fit somewhere, and not make Roaches useless in the process.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Protoss
:D Stalker and Immortal
:( Mothership
Zerg
:D Roach and Banelings
:( Queen and Changeling
Terran
:D Banshee
:( Thor and Reapers
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Oh yeah I forgot about Changeling. I don't like it.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran
Favorite's gotta be the Raven, though I like 'Nomad' a lot more. The turret ability is all kinds of awesome. I'm gonna be dropping those things everywhere, all the time. Especially if they can hit air. Marines getting shields, revamped Ghosts, Banshees, Reapers, Medevacs... I'm sold on Terran. They will be my race.
There's really nothing I don't like, maybe the Viking. Depends on how quickly it can transform. If it takes excruciating seconds a la seige tank I will never use it.
Zerg
Favorite? Whatever pumps out those infested marines. I've always loved getting 'something for nothing' even if it's mostly useless, like the BW Broodlings. (bring back ghost drop pods!)
I can't think of any specific Zerg unit I don't like but I rarely play as them anyways.
Protoss
I dig them Stalkers and Colossi. Yeeeeeaaaah.
I'm in the anti-Carrier camp. It needs to go, or be changed radically (see 'it needs to go'). I never liked them all that much in BW either.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran
;D I'm pretty fond of the Banshee. I envision heavy usage of these in urban environments. The Nighthawk - I'm sorry, the Vulcan... I mean Nomad... er, the Raven -- is also pretty sexy. These two rank together on my list.
ಠ_ಠ I'm pretty annoyed with the Thor. I like it in concept, but I'm getting the point where I feel Blizzard should just take it out back and shoot it.
Zerg
;D The Queen and Infestor excite me; the former in practice, the latter in concept. I feel that, despite its current nerfed state, the Infestor has a lot of potential. (Speaking of which, have they yet released a picture of its new model?)
ಠ_ಠ The Lurker is my least anticipated Zerg unit, honestly. I've not yet seen its new model, but as far as I know it's unchanged from its previous iteration.
Protoss
;D If it's mechanical, it's in. I look forward to employing the Immortal, Stalker and Colossus of Rhodes equally against my enemies - possibly the Colossus the most. Conceptually, however, I have to give this one to the Stalker.
ಠ_ಠ Phoenix, I suppose.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
Terran:
:)
Viking and Banshee
:(
Thos
Zerg:
:)
Roach
:(
Hydralisk (Why the change?)
Protoss:
:)
Stalker
:(
Mothership
But who knows they might add a secret unit to each race later on. :p
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
I love how 99% of the people I talk to hate the Thor but Blizzard won't remove the fucking thing because they're so hellbent on Terran having a Mech at the expense of gameplay.
-
Re: Favorite/Least favorite units for each race?
I'm including a "make them work damnit" for units who are lame but could be cool.
Terrans:
The good: Viking, Banshee.
The bad: Hellion. I'm sure a space civilization is able to come up with something better than a flamethrower on a jeep.
The make them work damnit: Thor. This guy could be the greatest of all if they make him do what he's supposed to.
Zerg:
The good: Banelings. Zerg don't have a lot of new cool weapons but here's one that shines.
The bad: Corruptor. LAME! This is zerg, not the devil.
The make them work damnit: Infestor and Nydus worm.
Protoss:
The good: Colossus. While the Colossus' attack looked cooler when it was first revealed, a freely moving ground unit with positional attacks is great. Nice thing about the vulnerability to air attacks too.
The bad: Phoenix. Don't see the point of these guys. Basically just "air to air because they need one".
The make them work damnit: Mothership. Make it a mothership again. A unique capital ship with lots of spells and a big cannon fits the Protoss so darn well.
