Ghosts and Spectres are probably my favorite Terran units.
As the lack of surprise would be the fact that, way back when I used to go on FanFiction.net, you had the Terran icon from Wings of Liberty and you had it here for a brief while. It's no surprise that you'd end up picking a Terran unit. Although the Ghost has always been my favorite of the original Terran units, I still like being the Queen Bitch of the Universe™.

Classic Protoss avatar exchanged for... Another classic Protoss avatar (or at least, the most SC 1 style Protoss avatar there was).
These are really very cool.

Well, you could have an animated Lurker. Or you could be like me and switch between avatars every now and then. :p

cool, every avatar looks awesome, great job Gradius.
Are avatars unlocking depending on what forum posting-status you have? If not, might be good idea to implement.

Let me know if the compression on these is too low or too high.
Man, this site looks quite great with this... yet I have noticed that most of them are above the 300 KB, and I had a higher res version of my own SC1 Zeratul which is just 248 KB.

In fact, I've been thinking...
how about adding some SC1 avatars there?

Ach, nein, it's a good thing. I remembered a convo we had about the most awesome unit in StarCraft after you posted a story in the StarCraft section. Grim Reaper, maybe?
I voted the Hydralisk, you said that the Ghost was clearly the most awesome.

No please, if I wanted another elitist forum I wouldn't be here. While at some degree it might be useful, it mostly promotes post spamming and elitism.

I've been on it for a long time but I stopped a few years ago. My stories were generally either StarGate SC-1 or StarCraft. But as for reading, it depended on what I was reading/watching at the time to be honest.

Ah, right. I vaguely remember that conversation, but don't remember if Grim Reaper was the catalyst.

Remember that too vaguely. I'm on a different system now, where my avatar changes in accordance with the story I'm focussing on at the time. Right now it's the Forerunner Iris symbol from Halo, next up should be CABAL from Command and Conquer.
And yes, Queen Bitch of the Universe has been begging to be trademarked the last 12 years.:D

I can remember specific pictures on a specific part of the page in a specific search on Google from a year or so ago. :p
As for FanFiction, I've stopped doing stories because I don't have the motivation. I'm focusing more on art now. Not that anyone can tell because I don't use DeviantArt anymore and I haven't posted anything on here recently. But I plan on making a new art thread when I have enough to show (two or three should do).

Quick search through my E-mail account confirmed that, yes, it was.
...What? So I'm a packrat who files away just about every piece of communication he receives. That's not TOO weird, is it?.

Twenty one years, actually, considering how it was first used in James Cameron's Abyss-mal (Gah! Pun!) 1989 movie.

Or how about increasing the custom avatar weight so I can use my HiRes Zeratul?
Even though these are lovely... I kinda... miss it.

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 125 by 125 pixels or 58.6 KB (whichever is smaller).
Besides, being able to use the offered ones which are over 300 KB and not being able to use a 250 KB custom one... well, I don't know.

Re: SC:L Animated StarCraft II Unit Avatars
you must understand, hosting all these avatars of 300kb ONE time to allow every poster to use them at will is one thing. to allow everyone to upload and use their own 300kb avatar is something else, potentially much more draining on storage.
... isnt taht possible if you host it for yourself elsewhere though? and just use a link?

The Abyss is a stellar classic and an amazing visual feat for its time, show some friggin respect son. Its what Avatar wishes it could have been. 80% on RT is nothing to scoff at.

Sure thing. the problem is that even if I store it somewhere else, that rule will still apply so that's something I'd like to have changed.

An amazing visual feat for its time? Sure, I do not contradict that.
A classic?

"The aliens live underwater! They want us to quit using nukes! They mean us no harm!"
Would have been better, but with that craptastic ending...

May be starting something that shouldn't be started, but I can't help but wonder how that makes a bad movie. I've never seen The Abyss, so I can't comment from my own experience, but for the above points:
a) Very strange things live in the depths of the ocean-it's a poorly understood ecosystem. From wikipedia, I'm not sure whether the creatures are actually aliens or deep-sea life, but does that matter.
b) Um, The Day the Earth Stood Still, anyone (the original)? It's not exactly a strange message in the history of science fiction. It's not even strange in the real world. MAD is both a word and an acronymn.
c) Why is that bad? Are aliens automatically better aliens when they do mean us harm? I dunno, could be a personal taste thing-I can't help but roll my eyes at the trailers for Skyline and Battle for Los Angeles in recent times, how aliens seem to be invading Earth for the sake of it. Some could argue that faceless invaders make them more alien, but...meh. I prefer a motive. Lack of conflict isn't a bad thing either.

Hey Gradius, I'll S your D if your next project is to upload these as higher-quality animated PNGs [somewhere off-site, so you don't eat up bandwidth :) ]
